For a quick reply deth...The Vdroop on this board is UN-godly..

I have it set at 1.45000v in BIOS,just to get what you see..I will try dropping it down a notch or 2 on voltages..

I am using a HUGE HSW/fan..forget the name of it...

Hey Tildeath, I have my vcore set at 1.355 and am running oc at 4.06 ghz. Is that voltage too high? I'm using an E8500.
1.325 is the most I would throw at any processor unless the specs are higher on it, or I was looking for some benchmark scores.  But for a 24/7 1.325 is my limit (personal preference).

When I had my E6750 OC'd to a mild 3.2 Gb I couldn't get it stable under 1.3625 V.  As long as the temps are staying comfortable it should be ok but you need to run Orthos or Prime95 for a while to make sure that's the case.

A lot has to do with the board.  The one he has mas tons of controls and its an X45 Chipset.  Tons of features you don't find in most BIOS.  My personal preference is nothing over 1.325 for a 24/7 machine, but it does depend on CPU voltage ratings.  If I am shooting for some really high benchmarks I do go above my rule but it is not for 24/7 machine.  I do my think and go back to normal settings.

For instance a Q6600 max volts from Intel on that chip is 1.325 but to get 4.6GHz our of it with a FSB over 2100 and scores in the 22 - 23 range I am a little under 1.4volts to the core but other CPU voltages are manually adjusted also along with the microvolts to the chipset and the relation voltages of the CPU to the chipset (not 24/7 safe).

Over 90% of my OCs are on Quads and they get real freaky with to much voltage.  But most of them OC real well without to much pushed to them.

Don't make any video card purchases jsut yet.  Wait until next month around the 3rd week... some new things are being released and card prices will drop.

That should be a better card.

<--- EVGA 780i but that was 2-3 BIOS releases ago when I had it OC'd.  It might be able to run lower V now but I haven't gotten back to trying it again.

Falcon, I don't know about that card, whether it is good or bad. If I was buying new I would look at the 4850 or step back to the 3850 or 3870. Those latter cards are cheap right now. Real cheap and seem to do a good job. Just a few months ago they were $200 and up. I think you can get one now for as low as $70.00.

I think the 4850 is a good investment since he has a newer processor (especially an OC'd E8400).  I'm sure he plays other games.  Don't want to hold the PC back.

Well that is the direction I would go. Still though I was trying to stay under $100.

The new 4830 is awesome for the money. It can be overclocked hard. I bought one for my kids computer and it's been able to take everything I've thrown at it with no problems.
