I imagine that 4 cannons and heckuvalot of ammo could be fit in the Jugs wings.

But really, having *eight* guns with the .50's trajectory and ROF has it's own virtues. Though each individual round may have less power, I believe one is more likely to hit something vital (especially the pilot) just through the sheer number of rounds in the air.
"Crikey, sir. I'm looking forward to today. Up diddly up, down diddly down, whoops, poop, twiddly dee - decent scrap with the fiendish Red Baron - bit of a jolly old crash landing behind enemy lines - capture, torture, escape, and then back home in time for tea and medals."

People saying it wouldn't be good for AHII... for 1, the Jug doesn't turn very good anyways, it's best at BnZ, this just backs up the case even more :)

No one knows what the future may bring.

P-47 will turn with almost everything in it's speed class, especially the D-11. The glaring exception being F4Us. Which is not to say it's necessarily a *good* idea to slow down and t'n'b in one at the first opportunity, a slow Jug being a favorite target for the flying monkeys.

That would be like having the gondolas on the 109.  They wouldn't be worth it for air-to-air work.
Yah...it wouldn't turn for cr---oh yah, it doesn't NOW :)

(well....would certainly hamper its awesome roll rate)
