Question regarding WEP on certain Bf 109s
« on: December 26, 2008, 12:10:13 PM »
Is it a finite resource on the Methanol/ Water injected engines ? i.e only 9 or 10 minutes of use no matter your engine temp.
Or is it simply a higher setting to be used until your engine is too hot, and can be used as long as you keep the engine under a certain temp. (as is done in some games)

In either case, does anyone know which specific DB engines are used in our G-6, G-14, and K-4? (in game that is)

Thanks

Fuel burn is set twice that of normal. We don't have actual reserviors for the "go juices" because used with the fuel they would give you half the historical combat WEP time. So, we get the WEP limits the real planes had, but not the actual go-juices they had The weights are modeled in, as far as I know (on the Ta152 they are in one wing all the time), but this is a gameplay compromise.

G-14 and K-4 had MW50. E-4/F-4 just had higher settings, I think. I'm not sure (off the top of my head) about the G-2/G-6, if they had water injection or just higher settings.

Some G-2s and G-6s used GM-1 for boost.  MW50 was not used in the G-2, but it was used in the G-5, G-6 and later models.  A G-6 with MW50 boost and a G-14 would have equivalent performance.

I don't think the G2 could use GM-1, as the fittings for the system were deleted in the G2. I don't know if they could be fitted with some kind of field modification, though..

Bf 109G-6 has a DB 605A
Bf 109G-14 has a DB 605AM (has MW-50)
Bf 109K-4 has a DB 605DB (has MW-50)

I don't think that any G-2s had the GM-1, however at least some G-1s had.

The G-6 with MW-50 should be called G-14, however documentation is confusing. It's basicly the same plane anyway.

Thank you.

So there is a finite amount of WEP time. You can't just cool your engine down and 'restart' the timer.  ;)

You can in game, I don't think you would have been able to IRL though, on models with the GM1 or MW50.

ahh. ok

So WEP is limited by Engine Temp only, and not duration. Naturally only asking about in game, as I doubt Ill be flying any actual 109s in the future.

So far as I know all of our aircraft are like this.  WEP replenishes as you let the engine cool down.  The difference is in how quickly the engine gets too hot for WEP.

wonder how the 38J is?

the funny thing is, though, that i fly the G a bit...and if i jump into the j afterwards, i tend to forget i even have WEP avaliable.  :rofl

IIRC most planes are five minutes of WEP, ten minutes of cool down. German planes have 8-10 minutes of WEP and 5 minutes of cool down, and the Ki84 has IIRC 2 minutes of WEP and 30-45 seconds of cool down.
