Hello,
Main room is Offline also the Alternate route

If possible could you figure why ?

I have no idea why it's down but i was forced to go look in the SEA and when asking about it being down was met by a Get The Hell Off This Frequency blah blah blah

If this was shutdown to allow this SE to run could you please explain why no-one made it understood or posted about it thus forcing me to witness another load of typing text crap from the  i aint sociable element in AH I appreciate events are hard to sort out etc but a little curtious understanding helps !!!)

If the room is down from technical difficulties then that's fine and please ignore this post, But as i say if it was shutdown on purpose please keep us informed as it saves at least me from seeing crap typed at me

Tit

I can't say why the MA was down, but you weren't the only one told not to xmit on channel 1 in the SEA-Med.  Everyone was, and none of them were rudely told not to do it.  Just simply stated quick and to the point.  There's ALOT of work goes into an event of that size, and the closest we CMs can come to the "God channel" is using channel 1, so keeping everyone else from xmitting on 1 helps cuts down on confusion.

But I did hear a couple of people say we broke the MA with about 200 people in SEA-Med

I agree with the typing crap you received Titanium.  I got some similar crap when I tried reporting in as a 'walk-on' the other week.

Nevermind... I've grown to expect it.

I seem to recall the MOTD box for SEA-Med said something about not xmitting on channel 1.  Did ya'll just not read it, clicking ok as soon as it came up?  Or did you choose to ignore that, thinking it dinnae apply to you?

I'm merely curious

You're right Tit, manners cost nothing.  That being said I can't say I remember anything I'd qualify as rude being said.  Short and direct, a "clipped command" yes, but not rude (or meant to be anyway).

One thing to keep in mind is the sheer number of people involved.  I'm an axis XO, and also the walkon coordinator for the axis.  We had 95-100 pilot slots, and that's not including gunner positions.  Figure another 35-40 with gunners included (that includes all ground vehicles also).  That's just what the axis command staff has to look after.  I'm sure the allied command staff has a very similar burden.

Then you've got the CMs for the event who have to look after ALL of us, 200 or so pilot slots (and I think we hit like 212 people in SEA-Med tonight).  Personally I think banana and his crew did a bangup job handling everything tonight.

Anywho, that's just to give ya a little insight into the workings and why responses may seem/be very short and directly to the point.  They have to be.  And that's why rely on tools like the MOTD box to help tell people what they need to know

The country channel stuff was probably from the command staff trying to keep the 'big picture' in sight, and idle chatter asking what's up/what's needed only clutters the buffer and can slow down response times at a critical moment for that side, like giving the position reports of an inbound bomber force being scrolled up real quick by several people saying "hi, how's the weather/family/beer".

Anywho, I'm sure none of the CMs nor command staff for either side meant to be rude, they were just getting thier point across and quickly and directly as they could.  Course everyone else might've been being rude, ya never know

Titanium, if you were transmitting on Axis (Knights) country channel, it was probably me telling you to keep off my channel. I was the Axis CO.

If I offended you in some way I apologize, but like CavemanJ said, its downright chaotic during an event like that.

Especially when as the CO, your trying to direct over 100 pilots in combat spread out in 3-5 different battles.

Plus all the participants have been asked to maintain radio discipline, and as CJ pointed out, there is a MOTD Banner that pops up asking people to not transmit on channels 1 & 2.

So, I'm sorry, but I hope you understand the situation.

Might be a bit over dramatic but imagine if you will that you're playing a game in one gymnasium and you suddenly lose the lighting. Do you run into the next one over where you can see people are playing and interupt them ask if they know why your lights are off?

 No.

Westy if you dont see sanitor(?) near I guess you too would ask if folks in next room knew something ?
Or would you just pack your gears and go home ?
Maybe you would look if you could find that damn switch somewhere near door?

Or would you just sit on the floor and wait somebody to came in and tell you whats happening?

Lots of choices but which one makes sense to you?

Using your options staga, you forgot one.  The telegram delivered directly to you that explains what happened to the lights.

I got the impression that alot of walkon people last night merely clicked the MOTD box away without reading.  Titanium admitted that's what he did, and I'm damn sure he's not the only person who did so.  The MOTD box told people, as they logged in, that walkons were to report the walkon CMs in the SEA, and also said to not use radio channels 1 or 2 in SEA-Med.

What makes the most sense to me is to pause for 15 seconds and read the message you're given at the door.  Your short pause to read a note saves alot of hassle, frustration, and hurt feelings.  Frankly, in my personal opinion those ignoring the MOTD box needed to be yelled at.
I think just clicking that box away comes from everyone only wanting to know "what about me/my wants" (society in general these days) and everyone being in such a huge rush for instant gratification, but I digress

What "telegram" are you talking about Cave?

I didn't go to the SEA 'cause... well... I wasn't interested.
If you did have somekind of "InfoBox" there I didn't know about it.
All I saw was 170ppl in SEA and 70 in TA (very nice numbers!).

Did HTC really turn off MA because SEA?

No, HTC did not turn off the Main Arena, because of the Scenario.

What CJ is talking about is the Message of The Day box (MOTD), that pops up with a text message inside of a large box, whenever you enter that arena.

It very clearly states what is going on, and to please do not disrupt the event.

And many people either choose to ignore the message, or they impatiently clicked past it and closed the window without bothering to read it.

And thats not a hack on Titanium, there were many people that did it, and some who were downright belligerent about it.

So there you (not necessarily you, Titanium, just in general) are playing a game of pick-up, the lights go out.  What happened?  You step outside and hear a lot of noise from the neighboring gym.  The back door is open -- there's a guard there for some reason, but clearly that's not important.  Just walk up to the uniformed guy with the ball and keep hollering at him to let you play, or at least fix the lights in the other room.
When the guards drag you away, you burst back  in, and repeat the process.

We had guys (non-participants) swearing up and down on public (=command) channels because they were muted for swearing on public channels.

Frankly, those interfering with the scenario were dealt with swiftly, efficiently, and relatively politely.  As someone leading a war, I would have been a lot more belligerent.

Titanium,

That was probably me that was "yelling" at you to get off the open channel.

Please understand that as head CM of the Afrika Corp scenario, I was the "open channel" police for the frame, in addition to having about eight conversations at the same time on various radio channels and RW.

I appologize if I sounded rude, it was not my intention. I was using CAPS during the frame to make myself easy to see, so that may have placed emphasis on a simple direct request to stay off the open radio channel.

Things can get out of hand very quicky in a large scenario with 200+ people, so I was being very aggressive about making sure people respected the "no open channel transmits" rule during Afrika Corps.

In short, if we met in person you would know I'm not a jerk, and I certainly didn't mean to sound like one on Sunday.

Hope we're still buds
