The Five Stages of Aces High
« on: December 31, 2008, 05:38:26 AM »
1. Denial:
"No one can make that shot."; "That's im-pos-si-ble!"; "No plane climbs like that!"

2. Anger:
"Why do I always die in a collision? It's not fair!" "NO! This is bogus!"; "Hey you dweeb, stop HOing me!!"; "You picker! DA... NOW!"

3. Bargaining:
"Maybe I should read the trainers' site?"; "I'll shoot you down then you shoot me down, over and over. No one will know."

4. Depression:
"I suck at this..."; "I'm never going to get better."; "The people have changed."; "Maybe I'll just argue all night on 200."

5. Acceptance:
"LOL! I collided! My bad."; "Great flying! <S>"; ".squelch <username>"; "Nice shot! Fun fight! <S>"

Happy New Year! Have a fun 2009 in Aces High... because it's a game. ;)

The only person that I've flown with, who I would consider to be under number 5 is Wurzel.

Stage 1: Check for the climbing part
Stage 2: Check for the HOing part
Stage 3: I've not really experienced this one, except in a prolonged GV battle.
Stage 4: Mine is more along the lines of "jesus no one engages 1v1"
Stage 5: I find myself saying "whoops" a lot. :)

I believe there is a missing step.  Somewhere between steps 2 and 3.

Step 2.5: Post on the forum complaining about other pilots, squads, planes, tactics.
In game callsign: not currently flying

These have been my stages, altough it spans a few sims, not just AH.

  1. New to the game. Eager to learn, envious and doubtful you'll ever be as good as some you see in the game, but full of hope.

  2. Really into the game. In a squad, big on base captures, coordinated play with other squads. Mainly bomber stuff.

  3. Learning a bit about fighters, actually getting pretty good in them.

  4. Uses fighters pretty much all the time. Loves the competition, takes part in all the King of the Hill stuff, makes sure the kill ratio stays up. On top of the world.

  5. Becomes routine, live die, doesnt matter as long as you find a good fight. Often times log in, stare at the map in the tower. Finds ways to make the game more fun, pretty much enjoying squaddies is the highlight of the game.

If there is a 6th stage Im pretty sure it has something to do with a delete button. :/

I got 1  :)

Step 3.5: Start threads on the forum talking up your self/squad because the community fails to show due reverence <snort>.

What about this one?

Step ?: Continually make posts at the bbs about how you no longer have fun playing Aces High.  Roll your eyes and look down on people who are having fun, while explaining why they should also be frustrated and not have fun.

My experience has been slightly different

Stage 1: Skip stages 1-5

Stage 2: Grit your teeth and play the game, no matter how often playing it makes your head feel like it is going to explode, no matter the endless frustration and screwups that happen even though you study ACM like a Shaolin Monk studies Kung-Fu. Ignore the fact that there are apparently semi-retarded lemurs who don't know an Immelman from an ice cream cone and who likely play with a beer in one hand and one thumb up their butt doing better in this game than you. Despite all these facts you will continue to play AHII because it's more addictive than crack.

Stage 3: To help you deal with Stage 2, pray vehemently daily for the Earth to fall into the Sun.
"Crikey, sir. I'm looking forward to today. Up diddly up, down diddly down, whoops, poop, twiddly dee - decent scrap with the fiendish Red Baron - bit of a jolly old crash landing behind enemy lines - capture, torture, escape, and then back home in time for tea and medals."
