What can I use or do to get a better quality picture posted?
« on: December 31, 2008, 11:33:34 AM »
Currently I screen print and then copy to Paint. From there I load to photobucket and then paste the url to the bbs. However the pictures don't come out real clear or in a definition that can clearly be made out.

Sure would appreciate the help.

What type of file are you saving the Paint pictures as?  JPG, GIF?

I just copy them to paint and then save them. Should I save them as a jpg? I'm really new at this.

Thanks

IIRC, the default file format for Paint to save as is a BMP.  BMP's are not ideal for posting on the web (large file size) and most browsers wouldn't display BMP pictures until I'd say a couple years ago.  So my guess is photobucket is converting your BMP screenshots to probably a JPG and is lowering the original quality.

Try saving your paint files as JPG.

Another idea would be to download gimp, set up your screen size, copy paste, save as then select file type (I like .jpg ;)).

Just downloaded Gimp. I have some reading to do though. Doesn't seem intuitive for me. Any hints on cropping, resizing, sharpening, or cutting?

Thanks all.

Getback,

I recommend Irfanview.  It's a FREE photo-viewing/editing utility.  You can get it here: http://www.irfanview.com/

Very simple, and it provides a number of simple editing and conversion tools.  Nothing as complicated as GIMP.  You can also set it up to take screenshots (just see the help file).  You won't be able to do too much creative stuff with it, but for simple cropping, resizing and conversion it's a snap.
