High Rez brief freezes
« on: January 01, 2009, 10:53:54 PM »
I just installed the high rez package and im getting brief freezes.  Ive got all the plane skins turned off and everything turned off in the background.  Ive got a sweet gaming computer so im fairly sure that isnt the problem.  Any help would be greatly appreciated. :)

1-Go to start/run/dxdiag and post a copy of your system report. Skuzzy will analyze.

2-Make sure you have updated video card drivers

3- Running too many background processes may hurt performance.

4- Try using lower anti-alias setting and go for more performance. Sometimes lowering from example 16x to 8x or 4x may help,

Generally speaking, there are two things which impact this.  The speed of the video card is one.  The amount of free RAM available is another.  If you are using Vista and still have "SuperFetch" enabled, it will cause stutters to happen, and be very noticable when using the high resolution textures.

Turning down sound acceleration cured my screen stutters way back when....might be worth a shot.  I turned it down to 3/4, still had an issue, then I turned it down to 1/2.....no more stutters.  It's all relative though, what works for 1, may not be the cure.  So many variables..........

That is very true.  Onboard sound chips should never be configured to use "Full" hardware acceleration as there is no real hardware available and all this is doing is adjusting the priority the CPU uses to play sounds.

I have DxDiag doesn't have a way  to adjust the acceleration of the sound. Anyone know if it exists & where to find it?

Nnder Vista and DX10 you cannot adjust the sound hardware acceleration, as Vista did away with DirectSound support and only uses the regular Windows sound subsystem for sounds.

What is "superfetch" and where will I find the option to disable. Also having trouble finding the acceleration option for the on board sound.

I get 5.9's on that Windows Indexing thing for performance and the game looks tremendous with wide screen 1440 X 900 with hi res textures and everything set to max settings for eye candy.  35 - 60 FPS in a dog fight.  But I too get the mini freeze from time to time. As if its loading the textures or something.
Just got the thing a week ago.  Other than this it runs great minus a Saitek X52 issue.

Again, there is no hardware sound acceleration configuration available for Vista as Microsoft did away with DirectSound (could not get DRM to work with it) and all sounds are now routed through the Windows sound subsytem which has never had a hardware sound acclerator option.

"SuperFetch" is a Vista service.  It is controlled in the Start->Settings->Control Panel->Adminsitrative Services->Services ICON.  Might want to set the "Start" panel to "Classic View".  It makes it easier to find things.
