Question for the gun nuts (gun control by commerce)
« on: January 03, 2009, 04:14:13 AM »
Say someone wanted to slowly strangle your firearms industry as a subtle means of gun control. Would increasing the export license registration to the point of making your firearms uncompetitive be a good way of doing it? Say an increase of 1800% in licensing costs? The US is one of the biggest exporters of firearms in the world, would the loss of these export sales hurt the industry really badly?

p.s. I'm being dead serious and not anti-gun.

Nope, maybe here but the firearm companies would move to a friendly country like so many of our companies are doing because of the stiffening restrictions on business, IE taxes, regulations, lawsuits etc.

Vulcan makes a point with interesting responses, what if the incoming administration passes some bill or law that motivates US arms makers to just move things off to another country, what is served?  More US jobs lost to hyper-regulation and taxes.

They'd do what most US Based companies hit hard would do... go somewhere else. If the people are hit hard enough, they'll do the same.

Think of it like this:

Someone is hitting you really hard in the face, and there's not a thing you can do about it. Are you gonna just sit there and take the punches? Eventually fall behind and down? Or would you simply move out of the way and go about your business?

this is already implemented for US buisness's, thats why too many jobs are being shipped overseas already...

currently they get benefits for making stuff in china as opposed to here

I, nor anyone else except you has taken any offense to it. I find it a good topic to discuss, something that could be hard to explain. You just hooked 2 fish on your line.

Well here you go showing your complete ignorance yet again. This is not a troll. We're getting word over here some US rifle exporters are shutting up shop because of this hike in licensing costs, see here: http://www.fishnhunt.co.nz/forum/YaBB.cgi?num=1230855422

Just got off the phone to My FFL Exporter , and they ARE not renewing their Export Licence , due to the cost basiclly going thru the roof ( it was 1500 & Now is 75K )  , so you can probably say good bye to private imports as the cost will not be viable any more .

Really rich46yo, if I lived in the USA I'd be concerned having people like you working in law enforcement. At least you make Miss Teen Carolina look good.

Just so I'm clear on this... gun control (and potential) = political, but cool gun stuff = not?
