82nd Fighter Group had P38s the entire war.  They never stooped to P51s!  Jeez Delta!  Get it right!

Make it the 31st, 52nd or 332nd. At least they had 51s

We encountered a severe shortage of
P-38's.  We attributed this to the repeated
pranging of them by the S.A.P.P.

However, we were lucky enough to scrounge
up a sufficient supply of P-51D's and issued them to the 82nd Fighter Group.   

Perhaps we will receive anopther shipment
of P-38's by zero-hour but I'm not at all
hopeful.  Seems like they get augered almost
as fast as we receive them!

Gentlemen,

Welcome to the 154th TRS’s Ready Room briefing. The 154th has been given the lead to penetrate deep into enemy territory as the scouting arm of the 4th MoM. Our mount for this mission will be the North American P-51B Mustang. Please familiarize yourselves with it flight operations and tactical abilities. Prior to “M” hour you will have an opportunity to get Hours in the “B” and become more familiar with its flight characteristics. So, come prepared looking for a fight. The mission briefing will be held fifteen minutes before take off. Your assignment between now and then is to know this mount like the back of your hand. That is all…

That's entirely possible

Not complaining at all btw.  Just suggesting that the guys flying 51s might want to use one of the MTO skins.  And of course there is a beauty of a P38L skin for the 82nd FG, but not a 38L skinfor the 14th FG so if Hightone and his 38s want to look the part, they might want to be the 82nd while the 51s use a correct skin and group?

Just for fun since you are making the effort to use the history.

No problem Guppy, I understand where you are
coming from.  I was told of your encyclopedic
knowledge of these aircraft, their markings and
assignments.

The problem I ran into, IIRC, is that there were
no P-51D groups assigned to the 305th FW.
So, I had to exercise a little command discretion
and quickly set about requisitioning some "ponies"
for the mission.
