It was a fun FSO for sure, but I felt the "feel" of the true "Battle of the Bulge" was quite lacking. Here is why:
On the ground in the real deal-
When the Germans attacked their armor had little resistance, they should have been able to roll right over the bulf of any allied armor put in its way. In FSO Frame I, the Germans should have been able to roll but they couldnt. The equal number of well camo'd 17lb Firefly's were able to fend off anything the Germans and their blaze orange tanks tried to do. It almost should have been a 75/25 split in gv's, with unlimited lives for the Germans and perhaps 2 lives for the allies. Frame II, could have/should have been more equal in resources. Frame III should have been just the opposite of Frame I (25 German v 75 Allied). The whole German>Allies, Germans = Allies, Germans<Allies was not represented well.
In the air-
I'm not familar enough with the air campaign during the Battle of the Bulge itself so for me to comment as I did on the gv portion would be like peein' uphill. However, I will comment on I do think the attacks on the rear airbases was well thought out. But, I think the playing field was too level once again. I'm not sure just yet how I would suggest it be adjusted. I do think there were too many Ar234's and too many Me262's, though. Perhaps more 109's, 190's, and Ju88's?
LOVED the fog. It made things so very much different. I hope to see even MORE variables like night, more fog, wing, etc included in future FSO's.
It was a very fun FSO, I would only suggest to have the balance/counter balance adjusted a bit, it was just too much of a "meet in the middle" type fight.
