Microphone Issue

Tiger, follow these instructions:

1. Start>Programs>Accessories>Command Prompt
2. Type in: ipconfig
3. Press Enter to run the command.
4. Look for the IP address listed next to, "Default Gateway." (Example: 192.169.1.2)
5. Open your Internet Browser and type that same address into your address bar. DO NOT add www. or .com.
6. Press Enter to visit the website. A new screen should appear which is the control panel of your router / DSL Modem.
7. At this point you might have to enter a user-name or password. If you don't know it, google your router's / DSL Modem's model name/number adding, "default password" to the end. For example, "linksys wrt54g default password." This should give you some results detailing the default login username and password to give you a shot at logging in. If the default username and password method doesn't work, you will have to call the tech-support team of the company that makes your router/DSL modem asking them how to, "reset the login username and password."
8. After logging in, look for a section that hints anything of the following:

Firewall
Applications
Virtual Hosts
Port Forwarding

9. Once you find it, look for a region where you can enter information similar to this:


10. After setting up port-forwarding to forward ports 2000-6000 on UDP & TCP set up the application to forward the ports to your computer or your computer's IP Address. (This address is listed in the command prompt window we used to get the IP Address for your router's control panel. Just look at the same window for the IP address listed next to, "IP Address.")

Now you should have ports 2000-6000 heading toward your computer on both UDP & TCP.

I'm having a variation on what appears to be a common mic issue. My mic (actually mics, I've got a couple that all have the same issue) works splendidly in Windows XP and every application *other* than AH. It works passably in AH too, *IF* I'm in the tower or on the ground with my engine stopped. The second I start up any engine, my voice starts sounding like a laryngitic frog, croaking and whispering unintelligibly over loud background static. If I put the mic right up against my lips and shout I can barely be understood.

This happens whether the sound is through headphones (with the volume low; it can't be feedback) or speaker, whether or not I have "Wave In" checked, and whether I'm going through a router or plugged directly into the DSL modem. It even happens if I'm listening on one headset and using the mic from another. I've got the volume maxed out on the mic, on the input in Windows, and in the game, and I've tried using lower settings in all three too. Nothing seems to help, although some nights it improves without me changing anything or doing anything to fix it.

Is this likely to be a sound card or CPU problem, it's just too much for it to handle voice in and sound out at the same time? I can't think of what else it might be or what to try.

I think this is an issue with the audio output being, "monitored." Head into your control panel and open the Sounds and Multimedia section. Look into both your Sound Playback and Sound Recording Volume. Make sure, "Advanced" is enabled by going to the, "Options" menu in the top-left and checking to see if, "Advanced Controls" is checked. If it is, click on every advanced button there is checking to see if there's any options inside for, "Do Not Monitor." If there are any such options for any portion of the sound playback or recording menus select them.

Afterward press OK on the Sounds and Multimedia menu. See if that solves the problem.

If that doesn't do it, check to see if your default sound recording device is your, "Microphone" and not a, "line-in" or, "What-U-Hear" option.

ok i think i know what your talking about, i have a microphone option in sounds speech and audio. but i cant click the advanced option, and i dont have a "Multimedia" section

Okay... Are you looking at the properties of the sound playback and recording devices from the control panel or some custom panels designed by the maker of the sound card or device?

Thank you so much, Denholm! It took some more fiddling with input levels, but turning off that monitoring was definitely what did the trick.

P1Tiger, you may have to poke around, where I had to turn it off was actually in the Audio Manager GUI that goes with my sound card driver.

I had a similar problem with my mic a few weeks ago.  I have a newer system with on-board realtek HD audio that is 5.1 enabled.  The error was caused by a feature that allows the user to designate if a particular plug on the machine was an input or an output and was causing massive feedback loops in game and in the DXdiagnostic directplay sound test.  The fix I stumbled on was to disable (mute) the stereo mixer on the recording control window that is accessible by double-clicking the speaker icon in the system tray, then options, then properties, then selecting your audio input from the mixer device dropdown list.  You may not see stereo mix on the recording control window unless it is checked in the recording properties window.  Make sure it's checked the on the recording control window check "mute" under the stereo mix slider.
My problem was characterised in game as sounding like I was whispering or that my mic was in a high wind or I was blowing on it while talking.  If yours sounds the same this might fix the problem for you too.

the lines on the sides are supposed to be the edge of the box. but you get the picture, thats the properties i can find. and stereo mix doesn't have a mute button on the slider control the only checkable box there is, is 'Select' just imagine that its a regular properties box. with the minimize and exit buttons n such

Bare with me on a possible solution. Start your game up and minimize it. Then start teamspeak. Go to settings and options. You will see sound devices and sound driver. You may have to select the opposite driver either wave or direct sound each time you use teamspeak. I was having a similar problem and this fixed the problem. There may be a conflict with drivers when both are running. Give it a shot. I was having a problem with a fuzzy voice and this works. I do not know the exact reason there is a problem.

OK, lets try this. Below is a color matching picture.



By right clicking on the volume control on your desktop you get two choices. By clicking on the"adjust audio properties" (red circle) you get the lower left panel (left circle). Click on the audio tab you can make sure the "Playback" and "Sound Recording" are both set to your sound card.

By clicking the "open volume control" (blue circle) it opens the upper left panel (blue circle). Clcik the "Options (green circle) and it opens the lower right panel (green circle). On the properties page be sure that the "Recording" bullit is chosen, and that the "Microphone" box is checked. This will change the upper left panel to a "record control" with the Microphone slider. Be sure the slider is up, and the box is checked for "select". Under the "Advanced" button is a "boost" setting its either on or off. I put mine on. If you are too loud when recording/talking in game , you can adjust the slider down a bit to take some of the volume down.

This is how it is on an XP system, with a sound card (not on board) and using analog plugs instead of USB. "your mileage may very" I also do not use any other voice programs. Each other one you use may try to change any of these setting to "IT'S" liking.

ok. i think i did all of that, i stumbled upon a Mute option and when i accidentally bumped the mic, i could hear it through the speakers, but to talk and hear myself i have to get literally about a inch and 1/2 away from it. like i said, with skype or TS i could walk to the next room and they could still hear me.
