Heroes of the Pacific is a fun game, and the mechanics of it feel a little nicer than Secret Weapons over Normandy, as well as it isn't as frustratingly difficult as SWOL.

Straying from topic a bit, but I just recently dug out the ol' Tiger Trainer (beater) from my shop after many years of it gathering dust. Stuck a basic Futaba radio in it and a Thundertiger .40. I'll be teaching my 7 and 9yr. old sons soon. I'm definitely not ready for scale WW2 aircraft yet.

All of my boys play offline with one another (which they love) and online using my account from time to time. They're 10, 12, 15.  At one time, the teen had his own account, which was removed as a punishment for something or other.

At any rate ~ they love AH very much. The little one is more interested in his personal performance (does yo-yo's through hangars until he crashes, always trying to one-up his personal best; etc).  An offline mission or series of 'complete these tasks' types of things that 1plus talks about would be something they'd all be interested in completing.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions. I will be checking out all the game titles.

I have been playing with the boys in AH2 for a while but they just can't get enough "seat time" ... one computer/work etc. So a PS2 game will fill that gap.

I would definitly like to play some custom missions with them. Where can I find those? Hell I want to fly an obstacle course myself....are there any missions like that around?

An offline mission pack "for kids" would be just awsome...flying the RV8 with rockets-guns....auto reload when you fly over the re arm pad...would be wayyyy cool....hint hint.  LOL

I can relate in that I have a 7 year-old son very interested in playing. He has the basic flight dynamics down pretty well. For now, he plays strictly offline. I cannot let him fly online simply because he has a tendency to carry fowl-mouthiness from the game to the school bus.

Same thing here w my 6 year old...I wish there was some way to disable range vox.

He flew in his first mission a couple of days ago..A hUgE 60+ b24's Alka mission.He worked the guns & external veiws for Alka's bomber..He scared off several fighters as they leveled 3 bases and landed.Certainly the greatest video game experience he's had...And put a lasting smile on my mug.

I suggest Heroes of the Pacific aswell. plane modeling is wayyy off but it has nice graphics. Was a good point and shoot game

Playstation 2: Ace Combat series. My FAVORITE PS2 series EVER.

I agree.

Aero Elite: Combat Academy. It's like a simulatior but has everything you're talking about, including a Prop trainer, Twin Seaplane with cargo drops, and a Helicopter... I loved it! A must buy.

I was talking about this same thing last night in the TOC, I have a seven yr old ( just turned 7 ), who has been playing AH in offline mode, and has easily concquered the basic offline 4 drones that fly around..can not get a handle on landing yet though.online he has 4 or 5 kills to close to 108/109 deaths......( he flys on my account )

the offline training missions simply made him estatic.  Ryan has already figured out that they will appear nearly in the same location everytime now.and that they do simple basic maneuvering

He is efficiently figuring out how to blow thru the onslaught and win the offline training mission....

I 2nd the post that wishes for someway to disable all vox/or country/local channel...a lot of stuff being said /sqeeked.that doesnt belong..

I hope by the time he is 12 or 13 ( I reall do not need to hope, it will be so )  that he is just as good as TonyJoey, who is 13 , and has the Correct mindset when approaching this AH online flight sim, he is in it for "The Fight" / " The Thrill"  regardless if he wins or loses.....

for playstation 2 there is Heroes Of The Pacific, Blazing Angels 1&2, the Ace Combat series (1 through 6). for Xbox (350 included) theres Blazing Angels 1&2, Ace combat 6 and a couple others. Ace Combat series is jets though, said they didnt hold your kids interest.

I started on Microsoft Flight Simulator at age 9 (monochrome, black and white screen).   Then moved on to color...  Red Baron in 6th grade, Falcon 2... F-18 hornet on the Macintosh, Falcon 3.  I never got into the WW2 sims until I found Warbirds 1.x.

Your kids can handle something with a little complexity and flight model.  Good luck.

The kiddos could always get into IL2. There is plenty for them to do in quick mission builder and there are great user made campeighns for download.  not to mention online play Via hyper lobby.  My kids have a blast flying the Bf.109 on my knee in the quick mission builer.  Of course my 4yo has been flying on my knee when I used to fly AHII.

I have soon-to-be 7 year old.  I take him up offline to shoot down drones once in a while and he is actually starting to get the whole flying thing down.

By far, though, his favorite part of the game is chatting on vox.  So, maybe 3 or 4 times, I've taken him up in the DA with a squaddie and let him say 'kid stuff' on  vox to "Batlfrog" or "Stoney" like it was Star Wars the Clone Wars or something.

Perhaps the best night was when Trotter was on, and he let my son shoot him down...I have to tell you, Evan was totally beaming  ear to ear after Trotter was chatting him up and then my son shot him down! It was so cool...

Anyway, great idea for a topic.

I sometimes let my two and a half year old fly in AH.  He owns most people he runs into.
