Waco CG-4A Glider
« on: January 12, 2009, 08:13:14 PM »
I think it would be a great addition.
It can carry extra troops, a jeep, and even a 75mm howitzer.
First used in 1943-1945, has a large history of combat.
Also, sometimes an airfield won't have a vehicle spawn by that certain enemy base.
And you don't just want to drop troops you also decide you want to run around in a jeep distracting enemy GV's.
The Waco Glider would do this perfectly.

Plus, it be fun to fly the glider down into an open area or into the trees for a challenge and then let your troops out and then end sortie and have the system tell you that you have landed successfully.

I had a picture of the Waco glider named ROSIE but i guess one of the staff took it off.
Also, the Horsa glider, it was british and would hold 20+ troops!

Need to have someone join you, or a system for it so you can drag 'em behind a goon.

Interesting...

Technically the goal of the game is to take bases, what's wrong with that?

Don't think it has a chance of getting implemented though.  The C-47 and M3 do the job just fine, plus the glider would always be a suicide mission...

And this is what is wrong with the game today. The goal of this game is to generate combat between players. HiTech has said many times that base capturing is in the game as a way to generate fights (I'll search for a quote when I have time). Unfortunately, it is easier (I can't believe people think it's more fun) to capture a base where there's little or no resistance (read combat) than to put up any kind of fight.

It is what you make of it. On the commercial it advertises Air Combat. That's what I think the game's about, people will have their own opinions about what it's about, and I'm all for that. There isn't any right or wrong answer.  :aok

Sure, and I'm not disagreeing, if you look at my stats basically all I do is air combat. :P

While I don't think any gliders need to be added, base taking weaponry like towable artillery and the such could start combat whether it be on the ground, in the air, or both.

Base capture is fun when orchestrated, that's undeniable.  When things go to plan and your organized with a group it makes people feel connected and that's where the fun is.  It's not always about the action aspect of the game.  It's really the same reason some people can be bothered to fly several sectors in heavy bombers just to drop strats, a town, or hangers and fly home.

Basically what I'm saying is, I don't believe something should be rejected outright just because it could help take a base, which in turn could start combat! :aok

True, you could easily walk up to it and stab the skin with your finger and make a hole.
You got me there.
