Use MG before using cannon rounds....
« on: January 13, 2009, 03:36:29 PM »
Thought I'd share this....

Many of you know me from MIDWAR...
And yes I ALWAYS fly spitfires :aok

What I've been doin' lately is engaging and using my 303's only.
Many things happens when doing this tactic.
a) Close range before firing
b) Sure shot only
c) Aim for engines or cockpit
All of the above can only improve my aiming skills

Once successfully at the above, during the same flight, I engage more incoming bandits with 240rounds of cannons  :D

Final results: One good sortie with positive results !

Try it ! Your scraps will be longer and challenging !

This is exactly why I fly the Hurri-1 almost exclusively...even in LW.  And not even having cannon in it makes me even more picky about when and where I fire on the enemy.

Meah, I end up with too many assists if I've only got pea shooters left.  I'll get a kill or two with the MG's in the Ki84 when out of cannon but generally if I've run dry on the cannon rounds I'm going to be attempting to disengage to land and re-arm.

I use 50s only most of the time. If I say BINGO ammo means I am out of MG. I may still have 150 rnds of canon.

I do this on occasion with my A6M5b when I know it's a sure thing. Other wise I'll expend the 10 20mm to get him out of the way before the next bogie is picking at me in my turn fight.

Don't fire until you're sure you'll hit, with any gun.
