Internet Explorer problem

I know this doesn't have to do with AH, but thought maybe someone here in the community could help me.  I went to try and use Microsoft Internet Explorer today, I usually use Fire Fox, so when I clicked on the icon nothing was happening, so I went a d/l a new version of Explorer, but it still wasn't working, so I went a removed it & reinstalled, still nothing, so after removing it again I went into my program files and deleted the Internet Explorer file, then reinstalled, again nothing, but now I keep getting this error message popping up on my screen ever so often saying,

IEXPLORER.EXE - Application Error(thats the header) "The instruction at "0x7c14001b" referenced memory at"0x7c14001b".  The memory could not be "read".

Anyone know what the problem is, and what I can do to fix it?

Did you buy the computer from a popular company or did you (or have someone) build it? What version of Windows is on your system? When did you get your system? Lastly, have you defragmented recently?

Did you buy the computer from a popular company or did you (or have someone) build it? What version of Windows is on your system? When did you get your system? Lastly, have you defragmented recently?
I think I may have fixed it, ran a Systems File Check scan and it hasn't popped up in awhile now, I also ran a program called RegCure and that fix about 1600 registry errors. 

But the computer was from Dell, I have Windows XP, I got it just over 2 years ago, and yes I do defragment.  I still can't run Windows IE, it's not a big problem as I usually use Fire Fox, but I would like to have as a back up.

Yeah, I.E., regardless of what people say, is required for Windows Operating Systems. Without it you lose your access to the Windows Update website and the ability to retrieve those updates manually.

If you have a friend around that has installed operating systems, ask him (or her) if she has a Windows XP installer disk that they could use to reformat your system. It might be time to clean out some of the junk you can't reach with a fresh install. Just don't forget to back up what you need in case your friend can't copy/mirror the files.

Yeah I think that what I'm gonna do is try calling Microsoft, they have free tech service for IE 8, so hopefully they can figure out what went wrong.

Heh, IE8.. That's what went wrong. Large corporations are installing IE8 blockers to stop it from updating because it breaks stuff.

As a sidenote IIRC there was a website that gave instructions on how to use windows update through firefox. Might be worth looking.

You wouldn't believe all the trouble I had with my computer lastnight & today, everything started messing up, I was getting all these errors about McAfee & other programs, it would just completely mess up Windows and I'd have to shutdown, then Firefox stopped working, but I.E started working again, then I finally uninstalled McAfee and that seemed to help, I was using McAfee because it was free with ComCast.  I wanted to get Firefox working again and just no matter what I did it wouldn't, finally I tried uninstalling & reinstalling in Safe Mode and that worked.  For some reason I couldn't get the page you d/l McAfee through ComCast to load, so I just got Trend Micro Internet Security Pro and thats working good.  Took all day but everything is working again, including I.E & Firefox.

So, would you say uninstalling McAfee solved your original problem?

Seems to, but not sure if something else on the system caused McAfee to start having all those issues because I had McAfee on my system for sometime now and never had these issues, but I'm just gonna stick with Trend Micro now.

Thanks for the info & link, but I don't think that's what I got, there was one virus I had that I just couldn't get rid of called Vundo, it was a Trojan horse, McAfee would block and delete it at start up every time, Trend Micro seems to have gotten rid of it for good.
