AH Convention Planes
« on: January 15, 2009, 11:10:04 PM »
This is to Hitech or anyone else who wishes to
comment.

I have seen you create an RV8 and a flying laser-armed
shark for the past two conventions.  I would like to
suggest some other subjects for future convention
*goodies*.

Instead of creating cartoon planes that enjoy a one-time
use, why not create planes that will, as they are added
in subsequent conventions, lead to a whole new arena:
a Korean War Airwar Arena.

For example, the planes you build now and the time
invested in their creation are, IMHO, a waste.  If you
use this time to create planes for another era they
would both be fun for the conventioneers to fly
in the MA, but would also be eventually useful for
a new arena that will attract a whole new generation of
subscribers.

Try this:

2009 AH Convention - N.A. F-86 Sabre Jet
2010 AH Convention - MiG 15
* open new arena for Korean War Dogfights*

2011 AH Convention - F9F Panther
2012 AH Convention - ?

2013 AH Convention - SPAD
2014 AH Convention - Fokker DR1

...and so on.

This would introduce planes that would eventually be
used to attract a whole new slew of virtual pilots
who enjoy Korean war subjects.  Same goes for WWI
subjects.

Tons of choices too:

Just a though that has been on my mind for
some time.  Looks like a win-win from a business
perspective.  What are everyone's thoughts?

If I remember correctly, when it used to be something like /enable RV8 or something like that.  It worked in wid war I think until it got corrected.  That has been a while ago though.

One year the con flight was the 163. I remember we were on the old pizza/AKdesert map and there was a million 163 screaming through the air. What a frustrating night that was !! Trying to catch them suckers grrrr

I think this game has more than enough jets, and we have already seen what happens when they try to work on another version. A "jets" arena would turn into a new CT, if only because HT would want to do the job right.

This game/sim is about WW II ......ummmm  not Korea ....why ask for something you are not going to get? ....you might as well ask for an
X-wing ...or a Tie-fighter ...or for that matter the Star ship Enterprise.

Also, has it occurred to you that the Lazer sharks, flying sheep ....etc etc are just the HTC team having some fun and blowing off some steam? They like to have fun too!  Yet you ask them to basically re-write the game just to go to the convention?  .....give 'em a break will ya? Quit trying to make ACES HIGH something it is NOT.

Helm,

This game isn't about WWII...its about earning a living.
Its about money.

My idea would allow Hitech to capture an entirely new
subscriber demographic and, as any businessman worth his
salt will tell you, finding a new market for your wares
is priceless.

That is a good idea Delta. If not AC in later wars (Korea for example) but AC we would use in the game.:aok

In years past they have created new aircraft that we would use in the game. The Me-163 for example. Taking those off the deck of a CV was a lot of fun.

Who's interested in Korea? This is an international gaming community, and Korea was kind of a "local" war. We Europeans weren't involved. And we are over twice as many as US-americans. As well we could want a planeset for Spanish Civil War with volunteering participants from most European countries.

I've got an older system by today's standards that still runs the game well by my standards.

Adding a couple Korean jets to the game isn't going to pull in anyone new. AirWarrior proved this. There was a Korean Arena, and no one ever went in there. Sure, it would be a novelty for a while, but everyone would just migrate back to the main Arenas. Its the same exact thing that would have happened with CT if they would have gone through with it. With limited man power, and a lot of other things HTC wants to get done, working on Korea era planes would be a huge waste of time.

The big difference is that an Evil Con Mission plane can have crude art, a strange flight model, and have significant flaws, but it can still be a lot of fun for about two hours of playing.

It only takes, oh, I dunno, 40 hours to make it as opposed to 400 hours to make a "real" plane that eventually gets "real" use.
