Any Ideas would be greatful.
« on: January 16, 2009, 08:05:01 PM »
I have a newer computer, going on 5 months old.  I have yet to have any issues with this system and have been quite happy with it.  when I turn the power switch on, the system turns on but there is no display.  I checked all of the connections and everything was connected properly.  The dvd drive light stays on but would not open.  Looking thru the see thru panel on the side, all of the cooling fans were working, power supply fan was working, except for the motherboard fan. The red and green display lights on the front panel were not on like they normaly would be also.  If you could give me some ideas of what to check or do next I would appreciate it.

Sounds like the power supply went bad to me...

What do you mean by, "for the motherboard fan".

If you mean the fan over the Processor, then your computer will not boot unless that fan is working as a precaution to avoid burning up your processor.

A fix for that is to replace the fan.  For help with that, you'll need to provide us with information about your PC, which you can find on your invoice when you purchased your PC.

Other things to report to us,
Do you hear any beeps from your computer?  How many times and are they short or very long beeps.

I would check the VC card or test another monitor.

The mobo fan??? The processor fan??? That could be your problem right there. Check connections. You don't need your invoice for a new cooler. Just buy a new one. Easy to install/you need thermal paste(arctic silver). They are not that expensive. I believe AMD's won't boot if cooler doesn't work. If the computer doesn't boot there will be no beeps and if he doesn't have a mobo speaker it will never beep.

You said ALL fans were spinning except 1 fan.

The picture below has the processor fan removed, but if it were there, it would on the right side of the picture, over the white square.

This that the fan that does not spin, or it is somewhere on the computer case?

Thats correct Kermit right where the missing fan is on the picture.  I had a spare one I took off of another computer to see if it would work and put it on ...The fan did turn on but the rest of the results were the same...no beeps, dvd light on but not blinking (nor would open) and no display lights on the front for power or reset.

Is there a CD in the DVD drive? You can open it with the computer off by inserting a (straightened) paper clip in the little hole at the front. I once had a scratched CD that would put my computer in a trance during boot.
If you like the Sick Puppy Custom Sound Pack the please consider contributing for future updates by sending a months dues to Hitech Creations for account "Chalenge." Every little bit helps.

I am going to guess the 350W power suply crowbarred due to the load being too high.  Unfortunately, if that happened, it could have taken out many other components.

Just a guess.

If you installed another fan you need to apply heat sink to transfer heat from processor to fan.

Last time I had this type of problem it turned out to be a dead motherboard.  Cpu was other thought at the time, I now know it is not (Dadano has that Cpu, and is said to work).  Psu worked in other PCs as well.

I really appreciate everyones comments and thoughts.  I was hoping for a semi-quick fix but that does'nt look like it's going to happen.  It pretty much sounds like I'm going to be at the mercy of the retailer from whom I bought it from.  4 days..1/2 dozen emails, voicemails and posts on there forums and not person has called back, written or made a post.  I guess I should be grateful I'm only 5 months into the 3 yr. warrenty.

Thanks again gents for the support  :salute
