Win XP SP3 question
« on: January 17, 2009, 12:58:35 AM »
It doesn't state it clearly, and I can't recall from when it got installed on my mother's laptop, but does XP SP3 install MSIE 7 with it? I'm thinking of just putting it on so windows update stops nagging me, but I really don't want to upgrade from MSIE 6, which I already have and use.

SP3 doesn't install IE7, its optional.  I'm running a torrent box computer that has SP3 but has IE6 on it (it uses Firefox for internet anyways).  But I thought I read that M$ was going to start forcing users to use IE7 IIRC (read some blurb about it last week).

It's a very very bad idea to use IE6 especially if you haven't hardened it with tight security settings.

IE7 is supposed to be a tad more secure but I would definately use Opera or Firefox instead.

My mother moved to IE7 and it really started screwing things up. I restored her back to a point where she had IE6 on.

I have extensively fiddled with the security settings and options on mine, so I'm "fairly" safe using it.

I'm thinking of just putting it on so windows update stops nagging me

on the online update click the + sign to view details. at the bottom there is a check box "Don't show this update again " tick it if u dont want to c the update anymore.
if u click one by mistake theres another option on the left menu to "restore hidden updates".
