THE screenshot for me. Nothing fancy, but it shows a moment of the absolute best of Aces High for me. It was all down hill after this.
DGS Scenario, November 44 and 20+ P38Js and Ls of the 474th FG are on their way to rendevous with the B17s of the 3rd BD enroute to targets in Germany. My flight of 4 in the foreground. Shuff in front of the lead flight in the background. Probably SAPP's finest effort as 38 drivers from all over flew the 474th in that scenario.
I was with a bunch of great people and good 38 sticks, all with a taste for the history we were pretending to fly. The conversation was amazing as some of the guys were talking about family members who served in WW2. Crims mentioned his Dad who was 2nd wave on D-Day. Someone else was talking about grandpa who survived Tarawa and Saipan as a flamethrower operator. Del mentioned a relative who was in the Pacific and later China postwar and what he'd seen. It went on and on.
The word gets overused in the game, but there was a 'respect' in the air for what we were representing. The radio chatter got intense as we defended the bombers. The flak bursts, the Luftwaffe fighters racing in, the bombers going down now and then, the winter terrain, the accurate skins on the planes. All of it just fit and this screenshot will always remind me of that time where Aces High was at it's best for me.
