Help me out?
« on: January 20, 2009, 08:14:38 AM »
I am a network engineer consultant and one of my clients is having an issue.  Been bangining my head against it for most of the day yesterday and part of the day today so far with no results.  If anyone here can be of any assistance it would be great.

When I attempt to install SP2 on thier 2003 SBS, (yea new client, never did updates) I am getting the following error:
Could not verify the integrity of the file Update.inf. Make sure cryptographic service is running on this computer.
i.   Researched problem, came to MS Knowledgebase article 822798 (assume I attempt Install of SP2 after each of these steps, per the knowledgebase article, unless otherwise noted)
ii.   Attempted the 1st suggestion – rename the edb.log file by typing the following at a command prompt:
1.   ren systemroot%\system32\catroot2\Edb.log *.tst
a.   Fail
iii.   Attempt 2nd suggestion, turn cryptographic services to automatic
1.   Already set to automatic
a.   Fail
iv.   Attempt 3rd suggestion, rename catroot2 folder
1.   Fail
v.   Skip Method 4 for now due to the need for multiple reboots
vi.   Re-Downloaded SP2.  Attempting install with new copy
1.   Fail
1.   Clear the temporary file and restart hotfix or service pack installation
a.   Fail
1.   Attempt to install SP1
a.   Fail
2.   Disable VIPRE antivirus
a.   Attempt Sp2 install
i.   Fail
b.   Re-enable AV
3.   Create new account with full domain admin rights
c.   Attempt sp2 installation
i.   Fail

Still banging my head against this one, any help would be appreciated.
