Having an Audio Issue... Help?
« on: April 25, 2008, 01:04:29 PM »
Ok... preflight check...

Read the Minimum Requirements before download... check. :aok
Adequate OS... check. :aok
Adequate RAM... check. :aok
Adequate Video Card... check. :aok
Adequate CPU... check. :aok
Sound........................... uhhh... tower, we have a looping unidentified sound. :huh
Sound options...... Negatory, we see no option to select soundcard or alter sound settings.
Only the option to substitute sounds, over. :uhoh

This flight is grounded, pending operational status evaluation.

Anyone experiencing this endless looping audio??  How do I go about fixing it?  The video is fine.  I didn't see any particular sound requirements on initial download.

Sorry, I'm a dreaded newb here... does it show?    eep...

Looping sounds like that are typically resource related issues.  Need some information about your computer.  A DXDIAG output would be helpful.

What is a... DXDIAG?

I can give you some system information, if that will help clarify things...

1. Go to "Start" from the Windows desktop
2. Select "Run" from the pop up menu
3. In the Run dialog box, type DXDIAG and press <ENTER>
4. After a few seconds the DXDIAG utility will be ready (the progress indicator in the lower left corner will disappear).
5. Run the video and sound diagnostics (Select the Display and Sound tabs to do this).
6. Press the "Save All Information" button
7. This will save the DXDIAG data to a file of your choice
8. Once you have done this, simply email the file to me and I can look for any issues your system might have.

I have had that audio loop noise on AH for many years, it's one of the reasons I kept un installing it and going back to Warbirds.  I have had it on at least 5 different PCs with on board sound and when using SB Audigy.

It is really annoying and I would love to know what the fix is.

Ntruder, post the first 1/3 of your DxDiag here, maybe something sticks out that's wrong and can be fixed.

I'm guessing the Realtek sound is the onboard sound and the ATI HD Audio is an actual sound-card? If the ATI audio is a sound-card, use it instead (make it the default playback and recording device) and disable the onboard audio from the system BIOS.

Unplug the microphone to see if it stops the echoing.  If that does it, then simply mute the microphone in the playback portion of the sound control panel.

The game actually has no control over how the sounds are played.  All the game can do is ask Windows to play it.

Low resources will normally introduce anomalies in the sound as the sound device struggles to handle all the sounds.  If you have an onboard sound device, DO NOT install any custom sounds.

Looks like it is a onboard soundcard with a ATI built into it.

The ATI sound is optical HD out on the video card and is not in use.

The onboard sound is the one in use, Realtek ALC889A, with latest drivers, did it on the previous drivers also.

No custom sounds and the mic is muted, only makes wierd sounds when in tower or hanger, as soon as I start engine wierd sounds go away, as soon as I return to tower or hanger they come back.

Unplugging the mic has solved the problem.

You really should remove the sound driver for the ATI card, or at least, disable it in the hardware device manager.  Every sound will traverse that card as the OS has no idea which sound card is supposed to play the sound.

It might even be responsible for the noises.
