About a year ago I was in there looking for some IR Leds and resistors for my FreeTrack setup.  I walked in and an associate asked if I need some help.  I told him what I was looking for.  He promptly went and asked a more knowledgeable employee.

I worked for ratshack(was owned by Tandy back then) for a while...
The company was and still is a joke..  I remember the whole
"You have questions!  We have answers!" campaign..
Wow....  They was probably the worst job I've ever had...
The company was run horribly..  We had a new district
or regional manager every other month..
They only thing the executives care about in that sorry arsed company are numbers...
Jeeze, I remember we used to get talked to about not asking for the last 4 of the home phone...
Who the hell wants to give any part of their phone number away?  I just want to buy the damn
roll of 14 gauge stranded wire!!  Who wants to pay for TSP when all they will do is hassle you anyway?
I bet hardly anyone makes commission there anymore..

Numbers are all circuit city cared about..  Look what happened to them..
Frankly, I'm surprised ratshack is still around!  Everything is way overpriced,
most of the sales people know absolutely nothing, and they no longer carry any
of the little pieces, parts, tools, etc. that Radioshack was known for...

Frack that place...  You'd make better money waiting tables somewhere...Seriously....  I bet you could walk in to an Applebees for TGIF's (hate those places by the way)
and get hired on the spot to wait tables..  One busy Friday and Saturday night, and your rent is paid..  Work a few doubles or a mid during the week, your bills are almost
paid..  Retail is the worst profession to be in especially right now..  Why did you decide to work for ratshack, anyway?  Didn't anyone tell you enough bad things about then?  LoL
Speaking of cooking over a hot grill: I'll bet my Mexican line cooks make more money in a week than you've seen in an entire month working at ratshack.
Don't knock the food/service industry unless you've actually done it and worked someplace respectable/decent...

ALL retailers focus on the numbers: last year, this year, ADS, etc...they always miss what's right in front of them.  To paraphrase your master, "That is why they fail."

What have you done before?  Are you in school?  How far do you expect Radio Shack to carry you in your career?  What is your career?  What do you want to do?  Is what you're doing today going to help you tomorrow? .

I guess I missed any question you asked other than the last line which seems to be an invitation to a misery loves company party.  Hence my reply.

I'm not in college at this moment, my application was completed two days to late :(
I don't want Radio Shack to be a career, but something to put food on the table and a roof over my head.
I want my career to be in journalism or some type of writing.
I don't think it's helping me for tomorrow, unless I want to be a salemen for the rest of my life.

I was wanting to hear other peoples stories, it's interesting to know I'm not the only one unhappy with my employer.

Go to college or join the Army and have them pay.  You have no future in Radio Shack.  Grab your nuts and change things if they are not working out for you.
I was already in the service.  I am not eligible for re-enlistment.

It's easier said than done, finding a job in Northern Michigan is like having a job.

You work retail in Michigan, in January, And expect hours....

Connect the dots.
Yeah, your point?

When you get hired at a job, at full-time or part-time, you should expect hours.

 :rofl

Not without a contract.

You need to move out of Michigan and into a state where things don't suck so badly.

OR

find a niche, start a small business, prepare to work 120+ hours a week and maybe still starve.

OR

Pick up a second job, possibly a third depending on the hour breakdown.

Ok, getting those numbers by cutting costs in areas that are crucial to the development of a company is no better than cutting one's nose off to spite their face...
A lot of these corporate execs start cutting costs (only to line their own and their share holders' pockets) in the absolute wrong places...
This is what Circuit City (and is some fashion or another, ratshack did the same) did..  They got rid of all their decently paid employees who were trained and
knowledgeable, and replaced them with slacker highschool brats who are no more than cash register clerks that they barely had to pay..  They also saw that
they wouldn't have to pay out nearly as many commissions since they had dumber people who had no interesting in making anything more than minimum wage..
This is moronic because if you're not paying commissions, your not selling anything..  Philip Schoonover was a short sighted fool...

Len Roberts who was the CEO for ratshack did something similar:  Getting rid of store managers and employees who'd been with the company for years
and knew the store, the operation and it's products like the back of their hand just because they think these employees made too much money for what they do...
How about cutting their multi-million dollar a year salaries to help save the company?  Ever see any of those CEO's do that?  How about the shareholders taking a lesser cut?
You know how many jobs you need to cut in order to reach that of a CEO's salary, bonuses, etc.??  A LOT.....

THIS is why companies fail..  Inept leadership, short sightedness and greed...

Journalism is a horrible occupation to have in this economy..  Read the news...  Every major news paper is laying off people....Journalists and reporters included...
In this day and age, you must be realistic..  I could list 1000's of jobs for you.....But that's YOUR job...
Ever heard of TSA?  Check them out...  They are always hiring somewhere..  And with your military background, it's almost a sure thing as long as you
pass all their tests and have no serious criminal background...  There are many opportunities..  YOU have to search..

...Grab your nuts and change things if they are not working out for you.

Although the first part is optional, this is exactly what separates the whiners from those who make it work.

Life hardly ever is a straight path, and no matter how you work the projections there will always be surprises. (Says the guy who doesnt want to open his retirement plan statements!) When things don't work out, figure out why = apply the lessons -- and move on.

FOR GENERATIONS now, the average worker will change careers several times before retirement. If you hate what you're doing, think about what you like doing and look into related careers. (In the US, you can learn A LOT about what's out there from the Bureau of Labor Statistics website. They have stuff like average pay, training required, number of workers in the field, etc.)

Lastly, as a general rule, if you're doing a job that anyone can do -- don't expect to get paid a lot for it. The more skills and education you get, the better your prospects will be.
Maturity is knowing that I've been an idiot in the past.
Wisdom is realizing I will be an idiot in the future.
Common sense is trying to not be an idiot right now

I happen to really enjoy being in the military, thank you.  A job is what you make it, if you're not happy then change it.  If you can't change it, be happy you have one right now.

If you really want a job, look at U.S. Homeland Security or U.S Air Marshal.  They are badly under staff that they have hire people who have miner criminal records.  Also look at Tech schools.
