Do not use an usb hub. Had to recalibrate often until I learned that. But yeah they are nice.

I agree with Getback, get a hub, but use it for your keyboard/mouse/trackIR/XM Radio/MP3 player/External components.

You're much better off plugging it into the computer itself.

I have a hub for my CH stuff. I use a Belkin POWERED hub. All three CH pieces are plugged in to it and its plugged into both the wall outlet AND the computer. A powered hub supplies a stronger (if you use a good hub) voltage to the extra USB things. I DON'T recalibrate my stuff. Its been close to a year since I have and everything is steady as a rock.

I think too many people are using an external hub that is not powered and that is why they run into trouble. If your running a "gamer" video card, and a monster CPU you already have a pretty big power draw on your powersupply in the computer. As you add peripherals you need more power. Either you get a mega power supply, or a powered hub to take some of the load off.

I used a powered hub, well actually a couple and had problems. Maybe there are good hubs and bad hubs. But not using the hub is what works for me and I noticed in a posted column that CH products generally don't like hubs.

Every CH setup in this office is connected to a powered USB hub.  Never a problem and we do recommend using a good powered USB hub for CH gear.

This is what I read and what someone put in another thread. Now it doesn't say Powered USB hubs but just usb/splitter hubbs. Now if Skuzzy says yes to powered hubs I take his word for it. No reason at all to doubt him. Although mine seems to work great without one.

I took my ch stuff off the powered hubs out of desperation. I was tired of recalibrating 2x a day. It worked. And that was before I read this article.

I haven't bothered to search for this but a couple of years ago someone on this forum (quite unfairly IMO) posted something about how horrible CH Products equipment was, etc. etc.  Michael Sexton from CH Products came here and posted that you should ALWAYS use POWERED HUBS with their gear.

I just shake my head sometimes at the apparent hard-headedness of the AH community.  Why is this even being debated?  If Michael (and empirically backed up by Skuzzy) doesn't convince you then why bother even discussing it?  Gee wizz!  I guess it's because you have some sort of problem and you, for whatever reason, blame the hub.  A guy recently emailed me about some problem and I told him he needed to be using a powered hub.  He replied saying that he wasn't going to do that because he had read here that "hubs are bad!"  I just deleted the email.  I really hate to act like that but this really is silly.

I guarantee you, six months from now, someone will post the question "Should I use my CH gear with a powered USB hub?"  and this worthless discussion will crank up once again.

Uhhhh, what debate. I'm not debating anything. I'm taking Skuzzy's word for it. Just saying what worked for me. Could be my $30 hub was bad. Heck I don't know.
