« on: January 21, 2009, 07:49:29 PM »
hey I just made a video about my 22-250 here is the link to it

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QL4YL5UhPXA&feature=channel_page

for a 22-250, shouldn't that group be a lot tighter?

thanks,

Seems decent to me, you got a scope on that thing?

Probably not bad at that range.  Where's you're point of aim?  It looks like you're generally aiming for the center of the holes, but you might see some difference with a set and visible point of aim on the target.  Something definite to always draw a bead on.  I don't really know anything about this round, but wind could be something of a factor.

A really rough calculation based on the quarter spot and my (and slightly lazy) math guesses at around a 2 min of angle shot group.  That's not really too bad.  Think about this:

What position are you shooting from?
What (as asked by spikes) are you aiming through?
What are you aiming at?
Are you controlling your breathing?

The rising patter may indicate that you need to control your breathing a little more, and maybe be a little more conscious about follow through.

Not a bad group for that range. Was that factory ammo? If so, it would explain some of it. As Hawk stated it could be a number of things. Aim point and breath control are two of them. Shoot at some paper next time with definite markings on it and always use the same point of aim. Your round should go off while exhaling slowly. Never ever pull the trigger. Squeeze the trigger. The shot should actually suprise you. Follow through after is important also. I have a TC Hawken in .54 cal that is set REAL light on the forward trigger. Always gets me when it goes off.

If you can reload your own ammo it will be more consistent. The factory stuff is done by machine and each round may have more or less powder causing some inaccuracy. If you do it yourself and make each round the same then you may get even tighter groups at that range.

^ what he said. 2 moa at 360 yards is good depending on the rifle and ammo. IE pretty good for a factory rifle and factory loads.

not sure on the size of the glasses in the scope because I don't have it with me right now but I was using the 12 power on it, I was using factory ammo bought off the internet, my point of aim was right I'm the middle of where all five hit, I was shooting from a table with the gun resting on an old board.

There are so many things that can influence long range accuracy. The first being, of course, you. The 2nd being the load and/or rifle. It doesnt look to me that you have a point of aim, no bullseye to center on. That could be the problem. The last is wind. The .22s have rather poor SDs and BCs and especially if you are using a light bullet the wind could really be messing with it. The 6mms do far better.

Looking at those .22 bullets holes and then looking at the green thing I can tell you the green thing isnt the size of a quarter.

Either way looks minute of coyote to me. Practice and searching for the perfect load will whittle down your groups.

We need information on the rifle, glass, and load, to comment further.

i just went out and checked it is the same size as a quarter, if you were looking at the hole on the poster next to the green thing, that was a .17 hmr round, if you were looking at the little painted over dents on the plate right next to the green thing those were .17 hmr rounds also, the BIG holes that went through the plate were from 22-250 @200 yards

thats a good idea though, I might tape a quarter to it for my aiming point next time, that would be fun to hit :D
