Screen pauses while using VOX

I'm getting screen freezes when I hit and release the VOX button. I tried changing the texture size to the minimum and removed the sound packs. Still get the screen freeze. I have a P5Q deluxe with on board sound, E8500, ATI 4850 and 4g of mem. I'm using CH set up with the CH programming.

I did a search but everything I read, I tried with no luck


Any help would be appreciated.

Is this XP? If so you could try turning the sound acceleration down to 3/4 of full. Right click your volume in the task bar, select adjust sound properties. Under the volume tab, speaker setting click advanced, then the proformance tab. Slide the slider back down to 3/4, or 75% If you can't find it that way, run the dxdiag, and click on the sound tab, you can turn it down there too.

On-board sound card use the CPU too so it might be causing a performance hit.

I did this, even went to 50, and it didnt help.  ALthough, I only get the stutters when I first log on ans press the vox button the 1st few times.  Never have a problem after that.

I also removed the sound completely out of AH II and tried the vox, still had pauses

Post how many processes you have running. Ctr/Alt/Del. This is your task manager. Bottom left will show how many processes are running. Just a shot in the dark. You should be running with 20-25 processes running. Use enditall2 to end all unesecary processes.


Also could be a driver update on OB sound.


XP service pack 3 may not be a bad thing also with all updates. Your system is more than adequate to run AH.


Just saw your video card drivers. 8.12 are the latest WHQL certified drivers. Here is a link to update. You need to use the ATI driver uninstall in add/remove programs and clean your system of the drivers. Most guys recommend a driver cleaner then a fresh install. You are running 6.14 which probably came with your video card.

Your processes are fine 22 is good. Try Video card driver update and maybe a lower screen resolution. Try 1280 X 1024. Also fugitive suggested in direct X sound accelereation at 3/4.

Next I don't think video drivers is going to do much. It just sounds like when you hit vox either the sound "card" runs out of resources, or seeing its on-board sound the computer runs out of resources. Your computer is hefty enough, so I don't think its there, maybe the game. What do you preload in the game? Textures should be ok, but I wouldn't do too many skins.

I'd buy a sound card.

Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS

There are many versions of this sound card so I'd go with the one that is exactly like I typed.  It's now cheap <$50.  It's a very reliable and GREAT quality sound card.

Remember to uninstall your audiocard in the add/remove program files and then reboot and enter your BIOS where you will disable the onboard sound.
Then save and exit BIOS and shut down computer.  Then read installation instructions before installing the sound card incase it requires software to run prior to installing the soundcard hardware.

Whos is your ISP?  What type of Internet conection do you have?  Have you tried running a Ping Plot (www.pingplotter.com) to see if there is any upstream packet loss?

Would it still be netwok related if it does it in offline practice?

I removed all the skins and started with a new install and still had screen freezes.
