I updated video drivers, installed service pack 3 and reduced the sound accelereation to 3/4. Still screen freezes.

Do you think it could be the sound max program that im using?

Or maybe I just need to by a soundcard!

You can try upgrading the sound drivers. You have the 5.10, there is a 6.10 out there for the sound chip. I'd try that, if that doesn't work, ya I'd get a sound card.

I looked up this driver on the ASUS web site and it say its for Vista and not XP

I didn't know the ATI video card had sound. How do you disable it. I did by a new sound card and installed it today and still have screen freezes.

You need to disable onboard sound via BIOS. Sometimes there may be an IRQ conflict with onboard and soundcard. To do this hit delete key when booting computer. Keep hitting it quickly till you see bios screen. Scroll thru the menus till you find onboard sound option and disable. DO NOT change any other settings. Next save settings and computer shpuld reboot. Make sure you have  the updated drivers for your new card as hardware comes with drivers as of the date it was manufactured. It could be 6 months old by the time you purchase it and there could have been multiple updates.


Here is a screen shot of a typical bios screen. This may not be your actual bios but it will give u a lead where to look.





It should be in integrated peripherals. make sure you save and exit when disabling onboard sound.

May have found your problem. Disable onboard sound but do you have duo core optimizer patch??? If not download from this link. This is probably your problem.

I have the duo cor optimizer patch installed, I did this when I built the system. I also have my onboard sound disabled in the bios.

Still having the vox screen freezes

I do appreciate all the comment but nothing has worked to date.

What do you mean offline?  You can talk to yourself offline???

Give us your DXDIAG file again now that you have your new soundcard installed.

How does your computer connect to the internet?  Straight to a cable/dsl modem or through a router first?

ahh then you may have ports closed that you need open to transmit. I wonder if that might cause the problem?
