This is a double sided coin. If you choose to respond to almost every post and set yourself up as having knowledge in a given area. Then it is certainly not going to hurt you to give people a rough idea of where that knowledge comes from. Assuming you actually have some basis for that knowledge.
On the other hand if your a poser, I can certainly see why someone would be reluctant to do so.
Some people have been hanging out here for years, many of us have learned that we can take their comments for gospel truth, or perhaps with a large grain of salt. Depending on the person and the circumstances, based on time and experience, we can make an informed judgment on if they are likely to be correct or not. Giving the forum a short bio
about your knowledge and experience is only going to improve that.
If you have a wealth of experience and knowledge, giving people who might wish to take your advice seriously some idea of where and how you acquired said knowledge will not hurt you in any way. Assuming you have something to base said advice on. If you don't, then obviously it is going to be counterproductive for you. But then you should be asking yourself why your replying.
I read this forum every day, but often I am slow to respond unless it is something I have personal experience with,
and no one else has provided a better answer.
