rampage I used to love playing this with my brothers, what can possibley be more fun than smashing buildings, cars, helicopters and eating people.



gauntlet I used to love this, i can't remember if i could play this with my brothers or not.  You could be a barbarian, an elf, a wizard or a woman- how original



IK+ i loved doing the splits and punching people in the crotch or being in the middle, jumping up and kicking both opponents in the face.  This was a fantastic game to play against my brothers.



paperboy throwing papers whilst dodging everyday hazards- sounds boring, but it really wasn't.



ghostbusters An awesome game, as long as you don't cross the beams!!!  If you did your guys would fall over and then get slimed by the ghost.



Goldenaxe Be a dwarf, barbarian or a woman and kill bad guys- great fun when playing with a friend.  You could even ride weird creatures that kill bad guys by swinging their tail.  I didn't own this but played it on my friend's C64 all the time.



North and South I used to play this against a friend all the time, i was always confederates.  The campaign map was very much like the total war series, moving armies to control states.  If you had 2 opposing armies in the same state a battle would ensue (in fact the more i think about it the greater the similarity to the total war series there is).  You could also rob enemy trains and banks to fund the war effort.   I think this was my favourite game of all time as a kid.

I had an Atari 800 PC with a casstte drive. It took about 15-20 minutes for the game to load.
I also had Battle of Midway from SSI.

I upgraded to an C-64 in 1986 some games for it I liked were.

When I got a 286 PC
I had Battlehawks 1942 and Their Finest Hour as my favorites.

Then I got a 486 and found Red baron Online, followed closely by Air Warrior.
Since then most of my computer gaming has been computer upgrades when needed to play Air Warrior, Warbirds, or Aces High.

The joy of cassettes.

I don't think kids nowadays can understand the frustration and anguish of waiting anywhere up to 45 mins for a game to load, with those god awful loading sounds with lines streaking down the screen.  Only for the tape to finish, the play button making a distinctive sound as it flicks up making you recognise the game hasn't sodding loaded.

Nowadays i get annoyed waiting 5 secs because i cant skip a loading screen.

My faves- F-19 (a MUST play- GAWD that game was cool), the Falcon series is awesome, on the Atari I played F-15 Strike Eagle at 8 years old under my dad's guidance

Ah, FD on kali those were the days.. what a great furballing sim with pretty good flight models to boot.  Took flight sim'ing to a whole new level for me in the days before AW went flat rate.

I can, because I loaded that 50 State game to discover it was one of the first to ship that had a major bug in them.

Made a film, in three parts, of the 'Close Combat The Longest Day' title. It will show you what this game is all about, or at least try to.

- First part shows the unit selection screen where you select (up to 15) units that will form the combat group under your command for the ensuing battle. Here you can also track progress of each individual soldier, medals, experience etc.
- Second part shows the actual combat.
- Third part is second and last part of the combat.

It is a classic that has been polished up and made available at Matrix Games. What I like about the game is that it's true to life in a tactical sense and the weapons range and effects are very realistic. So despite the fact it all being 2D sprites and the sound is crap by today's standards, it is very enjoyable. Especially fun when playing a human opponent. Some of the most enjoyable moments are the rare cases when a infantry squad is mowed down and there's one survivor and you think he's going to leg it but no, not this guy, he go berserk and assault the enemy. I've seen a single soldier take out a whole MG team in hand-to-hand combat melee this way and it's hilarious. At least when you watch it as sprites in a computer game. 

This game is great in MP and the system requirements are very mellow by today's standards. The downside is you can only play 2 ppl in MP, but if you can talk to eachother through TS it makes for a good conversation and lots of laughs.

Descent made me totally sick from the graphics' motion.
Wipeout 2097 was insanely beautiful. Graphics, atmosphere, ship designs, music..  Playing it after getting it for christmas in the living room with the lights dimmed out and the music at full blast on the 500W speakers while it snowed outside..
I remember Golden Axe mostly at the arcade along with Street Fighter.  My parents refused to let me have them after I brought home Double Dragon 2 bought with lunch money, because of how violent and overall gaudy they were.  I did get to play .. Ghosts n Goblins a lot. That was a ton of fun.  The graphics at the time were hypnotically rich.  Those Contra sidescroller games were a lot of fun too.  R-Type was a lot of fun, in the same vein.  Later on I got to play Gradius while stuck in bed with terrible case of tonsilitis.  I lost a bunch of times, and one day I just picked up the controller and went past the whole first half without really thinking about it, and pwnt the rest of the game sort of "in the zone", my hands acting on their own.
I totally tripped out on the atmosphere in Altered Space.  One guy marooned in the infinite void of space, having to isometrically tip toe and puzzle-solve his way thru a huge alien ship with all sorts of weird deadly aliens and shapes, with a sound track to match.  Marble Madness was equally trippy and challenging.
The Wing Commander with the full motion video scenes was epic.  A friend of mine had bought the full collector's version. It came inside this movie reel box.
Around the same time, we played Another World a lot. The minimalistic design was really good.  Boiled things down to the essentials of story telling.  I never got time to play with Flashback when it came out.  Prince of Persia was fun but didn't have much novelty after playing thru Another World, Contra, and G&G.
