One thing people need to remember is that Jimi has been dead close to forty years now, and from what I have read and heard etc. etc. No one, bar none could get the sounds out of a guitar like Hendrix could using the technology of the day.

+1, the only thing I can honestly give to SRV, is that everything he did, he I guess "pimped up"

There's a lot of good Jimi Hendrix stuff and SRV on Myspace music (suprisingly)

I looked up Little Wing, found a crystal clear version of Jimi's I almost thought it wasn't his at first

:O

love blues rock guitarists, and these two are definatly some of the greats

favorite has to be Duane Allman though, made #2 on rollingstones list of top 100 guitarists  :D now that guy could play!

and living guitarists, derek trucks is hands down the best guitar player alive today

the derek and the dominos album "layla and other assorted love songs" has a little wing which is clapton and duane allman which is awesome, duanes on most of that album, plays the slide on layla, its the  signature sound to that song for the whole second half, very few people know thats him...he also wrote and plays the main riff to the song, the man doesnt get all the credit he deserves

lol... searched 'buddy guy' on youtube... first song I clicked on was 'The First Time I Met the Blues'.....

That doesn't sound like it was plagiarized by a certain famous band... not at all :lol

The best thing that happened to SRV was a helicoptor crash.

There.  I said it.  I'm glad I said it.  It needed to be said.  I feel better now.

I suppose Rollingstone left Chet Atkins off the 100 greatest guitarists list because they didn't want to compare a professional with amateurs...

How bout we go ALL the way back and look up Robert Johnson. He really started it all. He and Hank of course. Music would definitely not have been so great during the 60's and 70's without those two.

You're right, if he were alive today, he'd just be... a little known musician playing small gigs probably.

i disagree, he was only just taking off, he'd be at clapton status right now

just like my favorite duane allman, died young, the sky was the limit for him too
