MA Connection Issues

Trying to fly again and having serious connection trouble. Any suggestions?

-Windows XP
-Ethernet Cable Modem
-RCN Cable Service
-Linksys Router

WOW! Packet loss all over the place. Have you tried restarting your cable modem? To do that simply unplug it then 30 seconds later plug it back in. Afterward run another trace and see what happens. NOTE: Make sure you're restarting your Cable modem and not a router (if you have one).

has anyone here had success in engaging their cable companies regarding packet loss? My normal browsing experience is fine so I suspect convincing them of a problem may be difficult.

Multiple people have tried in the past. All that you can really do is tell the ISP about the problem then hope they will actually try to do something about it.

Looks like its downtown Chicago. Could be a firewall if the router reset doesn't work.

hope you are right, when I spoke with them they freely admitted the problem was on their end and they are working on it.

Ok here is the latest, greatly improved but still getting discos from MA. I have bypassed the router and am just going cable modem to computer. RCN had problems on monday, made some "fixes" and now say everything looks good on their end, and for awhile it does, just intermittent packet loss on final hop to server.

Is this still a RCN problem?

Those Dallas ATTnet servers always show that garbage.

Packet loss on the last hop always indicates the problem is on the return trip.  It is a limitation of traceroutes/Ping Plots and requires me to do a trace back to you as the routes are 100% asynchronous (i.e. the return trip is not the same as the trip from your computer).

I cannot run return trip traces over the weekends as I have to do it from the game servers.  I'll get it done Monday.
