Welcome to the game. As far as plane type, pick something that interests you, one you enjoy flying for whatever reason. As mentioned, some planes are a bit more forgiving, but I don't think that is a good gauge as to what you should fly. Having said that, some planes, like the 109k can be awesome....however only so when the driver can tap into some of the planes abilties that aren't always so evident. There is generally a high learning curve, so I would suggest seeking out a trainer, they have years of experience and will exponentially increase your ability to fly whatever plane you choose more effectively. spit16/la7 are very good planes. They are fast, have good guns, can turn well, and climb well. While they have many strengths, maybe not the best to learn with as you can really spoil yourself. Then again, some other planes are more difficult to fly which may prove a bit too frustrating for the newer player. Ask around for planes abilities, find what you like... a couple more
p38j/l- jack of all trades, not an awesome climber, not an awesome turner, but does both ok. Big target, but great guns.
p51- very fast, not so great climber without speed. good guns...so-so turning plane for the inexperienced.
Hurricane- slow, but great turning plane and great guns. doesn't climb so well
Typhoon- awesome guns, fast, poor turner.
190- fast, great guns, poor turner, best roll rate
109f- good turner, ok guns, good climber
109k- awesome climbing plane, fast, awesome guns (but takes alot of practice to aim), can fight slow but again, will take alot of practice.
just a quick list with quick summary.
