Major mike problems
« on: February 01, 2009, 09:59:48 AM »
My squaddies keep telling me my mike sucks, so I tuned myself and It sounds like someone stuck the headset out in a hurricane. It sounds like someones blowing into it very fast and you can hardly hear my voice at all. I tried checking and rechecking wave in, opened my volume control and found nothing out of the normal. This is very peculiar as this has never happened before. any help?

You might want to try ...

Windows Control Panel > Sounds and Audio Devices > Voice Tab > Voice Playback - Advanced... button > Performance Tab

If you have full hardware acceleration, you might want to back it off a bit and see if that helps.

in the Volume Control click OPTIONS then PROPERTIES and select RECORDING.

adjust the Mic volume there.

also under Playback click the ADVANCED button under Mic Volume and make sure Microphone Boost is checked.

First off your tool for fixing this is sound recorder. Much easier to play with settings, try a test recording, playback, then readjust than any other method. In Windows XP sound recorder can be found at start/programs/accessory's/entertainment/sound recorder.

Next, try different mic positioning. Farther away for starters.

Then play with some of the other options. If you have a advanced tab in volume controls for mic, go there and see if you have a "boost" option. Then work with the mic input level and the recorder until you start getting good sound.

Then come back and test it in game.

A mic sock is a good idea if your getting wind noise (like it sounds your getting)
Setting mic so its not in front of your mouth, but rather off to the side often also helps.
Record should be set for quality (Right click on speaker in your task bar, adjust audio properties.)

Off to the side or below your chin if it reaches that far.. I find that right below the chin is the best spot for sensitive mics without any foam. No risk of wind there and it's nearer the chords. Just don't let it scrub against your skin.

Surprised no one has mentioned for him to click the microphone boost button. This has helped more people transmit more clearly than anything else. Open your volume control and find the mic setting, then click advanced and put a check in the mic boost box....simple

Going from full acceleration to 3/4 helps a lot too especially if you seem to be getting discos
while using vox

Nope still not working, I've tried everything here but I'm still getting the wind sound after like 3 secs of broadcasting. On Windows Sound Recorder I sound fine nd all It's only on aces high that thing go all screwy. I have no idea what it might be except for the game itself.

Could you (and zuii too I guess) post films of yourselves over the mic?
