One of the best things about Aces High is getting lessons from the masters. Last night helping defend A1, I was hugely impressed with the way Citabria took control and stayed in control.
Solo,he came over A1 just high enough to tempt defenders into climbing for him. He would stay almost within reach, then just as attackers almost got the gun angle, nearly hanging on their props, he'd dip down and blast us. The degree in gun angles couldn't have been much, but his always hit and ours didn't.
I was impressed enough by his audacity to stalk him in subsequent sorties. I tried coming in higher and faster, sneaking up on the deck as he exited in the valley, pouncing on him when he was lower and hotly engaged, but always he was just out of my gunsights.
He was flying the 109G and using it perfectly for its vertical dominance. But he also evaded and stung horizontally and any other angle.
I started with La-5 and then shamelessly went to Typhoon and Chog to at least zoom and blast him. But to no avail. He was always the consummate matador to my hurtling bull (double entrendre intended).
Citabria was usually outnumbered. But he always controlled the situation, usually by retaining just enough alt advantage to tempt attack and then turn the tables on the attacker.
Bravo, Citabria! No wonder you're ranked 7 in fighters and 2 in bombers (although I haven't knowingly witnessed your bombing, I've probably tumbled into your craters somewhere).
Granted, my scores are near the bottom of Aces High, but I can still recognize genius and laud it accordingly as well as enjoy the game as much as anyone.
