New fleet types would enchance the game greatly. We have now people that really enjoy "the navy" feel of firing the big guns on the cruisers and shelling places to kingdom come.

I think it would be cool to have:

1) Carrier Task Force: 1 carrier and 4 Destroyers (as AAA and protection and coastal shelling). This one works just like the current fleets, just that the Cruiser is not there.

2) Cruiser Task Force: 2 Cruisers, 4 DD's. Works just like Carrier Task Forces. They come out of the same port and are captured in the same way as carrier forces.

3) Battleship Task Force: 1 Battleship, 4 Destroyers. They come out of the same port and are captured in the same way as carrier forces.

4) Destroyer Task Force: 1 lone Destroyer. This Task force can come out of any port. No limit on their numbers. This is the "next step" from the PT boat. DD is fast but fragile and very vulnerable to other navy ships and airplanes. Lone DD's would have lotsa torpedoes, 2 5" guns and mannable AAA guns.This would allow navy lovers to launch from a port and steam to any location they wish to shell or do whatever without being attached to a fleet.

I also think this is a good idea.

I think that the cruiser taskforce and the battleship taskforce need Kingfishers as part of their armament to do spotting for the fleet guns.

Great idea, as long as it doesn't draw too many resources from HTC regarding new A/C etc...Flight Sim First mentality.

I like the idea, but a big issue to overcome would be performance hits whenever there were several task forces clumped together.  The FPS hit around just 5 capital ships right now makes the game close to unplayable for some.  With what you propose, it wouldn't be difficult to get 30+ capital ships together.

First, agreed with what Ripsnort said.

Second, I would make it so all the fleet depends on CV existance to respawn. So if you lose Battleship, you will not get anothre one until only CV is up. Something like that would solve the boat #'s, plus encourage fleet defense.

Well the thing is that the CA and BB task forces do have to launch from the same port and are bound by the same rules as the current fleet system. That is, if you lose the home port of those fleets and then those fleets get sunk they become property of the enemy when they respawn. They are also subject to the Fleet Command option the current system has. But you are right about the framerate hit. I put the CA and BB with several DD's so that they could have some AAA cover. But they can both be reduced to a single big ship (CA or BB) and 2 Destroyers. Framerate wouldnt be that bad then.

the single DD forces would have to launch from a port and steam to their targets. that takes a lot of time... and any fighter with 3k or ordenance can take them out easily if they can hit.


I really like fleet actions, especially the coordination that is achieved between the fleet gunners and the air support..its very exciting and unique.

Now we only need to move the gunners to the con tower and let them spot/direct/fire from there instead of being blind =)
