I am especially wondering how bullets hitting the water will look. And perhaps different sized splash impact for different caliber weapons?

Worked fine on WMP for me.  Both the .mpg and .avi.

I'm seeing it fine. I'm using the latest DIVX codecs for wmp.
I don't know if that's the reason I'm viewing it or if I just have the right wmp codecs to see it. <-- did that make sense? 

I hope I'll still be able to play after it's released.

I'm sure they have made it as playable as possible for older machines.  If not who cares?   go buy a better one!  it's the 21st century after all.  ;)
