Axis and Allies
« on: February 05, 2009, 01:08:37 PM »
What do you guys think about an axis and allies main arena where there are only two countries, and I know there is already an axis and allies. But what I'm talking about is a main arena where if your axis you fly any axis planes and same for allies. I really think our players or diverse enough to make this work. I think it would be so much better, instead of having to develop tactics against every plane in the game you would only have to worry about one group of planes. Just an Idea.....

I think the Allies would always win and would always substantially outnumber the Axis.

The Axis and Allies arena tried a completely open set with as much an MA feel (base captures and what not) at one point.  After some initial interest, it died off as the AvA is prone to do, due in no small part to persistently unbalanced numbers.

It was more due to a complete self destruction of the AvA community than anything else.

There were indeed a multitude of reasons why it didn't work, but IMO the fact the arena was unbalanced more often than not discouraged any newcomers from sticking to it for very long.

YMMV.

I think the open plane setup would be nice to see, maybe every 4th week or something.. or maybe the last 3-4 days of the tour.

For me, the "non-standard" arena settings have been the major turn off. It's always been to much of a pain to go back and forth.

How about an open planeset for each side during titanic Tuesday? Might lessen numbers in the ma and give an alternative to tt for those that don't enjoy it. Id love to go into ava and see a true open set per side when the events aren't running.

They tried this in Warbirds and it was a small disaster.  It tore the community apart.  Each side would constantly whine about how their side had it tougher and make all sorts of moral accusations against the people who flew for the other side.

This is actually a pretty good idea... but maybe every other TT...   would give people a better chance to see the awesome variety of maps the AvA uses.

you AvA staffers listening, here?   :aok

the biggest obstacle, tho', would be having that change made, and then back to whatever afterwards, due to staffer availibility.

If I could go into the ava and see one side has the axis set to use and the other side the allied set to use and there were people in there to fight, i'd not spend alot of time in the MA ever again. When I went into the ava there were around 10 people total in the arena, I lined up on a 109 and almost on cue with my trigger the friggin cable puller/discoer disappears. Look for another fight and there is none to be found in the air. Have to play aces low to find a fight that day. No, thanks.  The ava to me should be the most sim they can throw at this game. The arena caps should be maxxed out because of how fun it would be in there but the gamey non historical planeset in the MA's is what the quakers want these days I guess. I say try ( PAY ATTENTION HERE THE WORD IS "TRY") and put an open planeset for each side during a titanic tuesday a little more often than every other one. If people see they can use the arena more they may go in there more often. If they see it's only available every now and then it'll get written off as a waste of time to wait for. I would wait all week for an FSO event. The ava events to me already are a joke to wait for since every time i try and attend one or pop into the arena it's a ghost town. No offense but that is what i've seen of it so far when I log in. Want to get more people in there? Open the planeset a little more and make the arena more available than for special events. Advertise a fight over the bbs on such and such a day. Make it a chess match between 2 sides and once a couple squads form it'll be like a virus in there.

The AvA arena is fubar every tuesday because it shares the same server as the main arena.
