Since we now seem to have a schism developing between those who want ultra realism and those who want to play a game, where do you stand?

No long explanations, lets just tell HTC where their customer base is leaning.

I am a fun seeker.

Mav

Sorry about the misspelling on the title

not the nicest reply is it maverick?

I like AH as it is but would like a few more realistic ideas implemented.
Not 'ultra realism' but some realistic elements.Basically now i want the oppersite of what you want

that was a little dig at ya ok?

ive just read your reply to my post and it seems i got ya wrong (yawn stuff etc) ah it happens! anyway i now understand your objections to the low radar business and i see what you mean but the simple answer to your fear of HQradar attacks is to make 50 miles around HQ full radar to the floor for you and the rest of the targets (50%-50% for fairness) how i and others would like to see them (NOE attack-able with no dar).Fair?

I have fun on the purist side. So to the literal, I am on both sides of the question.

I think your question is If we like full realism or gameplay. The answer is not so easy as a yes or no. Too many factors.

I hvy sided towards realism. No gamey for me.

I hope this helps.

Realistic gameplay IS fun, thats what flight sims are all about.  Thats why its called a flight SIMULATION, and not a flight game.

I personally like the concessions that HTC make in order to keep the fine line between a realistic sim and gameplay.  After all, we as virtual pilots are limited to a flat monitor, and to make a sim too realistic can drive away new potential customers.  Bottom line for me is...if its a pain in the butt to manage from the cockpit while distracting from your primary goal of attacking or fighting, then its not good for everyone.

Hmmm.....

First of all, my appologies, Maverick, for I am going to digress a bit, and this is a poll thread.

Ripsnort,

Down that road, you could find, for instance, that instrument panel obstruct your view in attacking or fighting, deploying flaps to increase lift in a stallfite and recovering them is annoying, having to wait for the speed to come down before you can drop your landing gear is useless, the fact of having to land manually is a pain, so why don'w we have an auto-landing feature?, etc. Where do you draw the line?

I like AH as it is, but that does not mean I do not want to change it. Or, at least, give the changes I would like to see a chance (I am thinking right now on the engine management issue).

Changes will mean an improvement for ones, and a mess for others. Nothing is good for everyone, Htc. has to decide who they want as customers, and being a difficult task, I will supply them with as much feedback as possible. Of course always in a good mood

So in this particular issue, I would be VERY happy to have an as realistic as possible plane & environment. I know this is no bread & butter for everyone, even it is not for the reduced group of crazy simmers (not gamers) that live here, but, for me, It would be most fun ever.

Cheers,

Pepe

Pepe, the only problem I see with that (And I too am a 'realist nut') is that HTC would be limiting themselves to a small market, thus staying afloat (staying in business) has less of a chance.

Fun seeker without many of the hassles the real pilots had to deal with.
BIG one, engine management!!  Ok I'd agree to being forced to not run at 100% all day, but mixture controls and all that crap do not belong in the MA.  It will hurt membership, you all know this.  When there's an Eleet arena, yas can all go over there and argue about why the 190 pilots innards don't turn to mush with all them floppy fish maneuvers..

Ripsnort,

AH (IMHO) is a "niche" product. Quake is a "mass" product. Of course HTC has the right to walk the mass path as long as they want. The realistic approach is what gets me. And HTC is making a wonderful balance between game and sim.

Maybe the "reality nuts" we are make too little of a cake to make the slices appealing. Buy I think AH is sexy not only for the fun of it (and has a hell of it) but also for knowing you are flying the most "close to the real thing" available in the market. And here it comes (IMHO, and no offense intended to anyone) most of the frustrations of the gamers. They want to be top scorers in the most challenging, most realistic game in town. But when you face them to ....hey, that's what the real thing actually was.... you receive the answer of the like "I do not bother what the real thing was, I just want to kill somebody" or "This feature was for real, but does not add anything valuable to the game/it's only a nuisance/do not want to take care of it". Take a look at the threads. You will easily identify which type we are. Each of us, and quite consistently.

Cheers,

Pepe

well worded Pepe. HTC is striking a balanced interpretation. For them to push the game either towards the more "gamey" or more "realistic" extremes would be, how should one say it? Less fun. There are small parts of AH that need tweaking, but that's the way it should always be. AH grows and there are things that need lookin' at. Much better proposition than not growin' at all, if ya know what I mean.

Purist! I don't give much for that "we are limited by 2D Monitor blah stuff" either.

Only once did I get the chance to fly in Warbirds historical arena WITHOUT Icons - IT WAS A BLAST!
