cloud fix
« on: February 06, 2009, 02:24:15 PM »
HT and staff have come up with great water and terrain.I would like to see cloud modeling where like in real flights you coud use clouds for cover.I know I am gonna hear a bunch of whining about running but I feel it would lend a realism to the fight or looking for cv groups
been there destroyed that

I think we have enough way to avoid a fight now, clouds are fine as they are. The reason more are NOT added by the map makers is the hit most machines take in FR.

A redesign of the cloud system would be great. Even if not for the MA, having pea soup conditions in FSO just adds to the fun, but the way the clouds work now they don't look very nice.

We've had "pea soup" in the MA before. "Fun" was not what people called it.  :rofl

Perk the pea soup...  Really. Give people perks for flying in bad weather.. Or (and) reward it in score.. That's not really the point, but it would get people to do it and see it's actualy nothing worth complaining about.

SRI...I'm mostly into the "combat" aspect....not so much with the "flight" part.

I get a kick out of how many people absolutely cannot handle anything less than severe clear wx.  Varying atmospheric conditions would be awesome, volumetric clouds, etc.  Of course that won't happen anytime soon, but maybe a few years down the road.

I think too many people mix this game up with a flight simulator. You want pretty clouds to fly in and out of, you want rain and snow, go play Flight Sim game from Microsoft. This is a combat sim game where the focus is on combat, not looking at the pretty scenery. I could see it as a tool used in the FSO and such, but not in the mains.

in a game where you cant just have a dot showing where you are on  map.. you must have an airplane pointing the direction you are too..   expecting the.... (insert non flattering name here)  masses to put up with something as inconvenient as clouds.. is unthinkable..

anything that interferes with the process of  Autotakeoff ----> autoclimb for 5 min  ----> autolevel for 2 min  ----> shoot at people till your die  ---> repeat     will never stand.

we cant even have wind..the game supports it, but its set to 0. Probably because people would bltch too much about it  (zomg I was 200 out in my LA on that 51 and a gust of wind made me miss, this game is st00pid!)

I for one would LOVE realistic coulds in the way of a rotating weather pattern of such.. would effect what you could hit, at what alt, and when.. etcetc  would really add to the immersion factor...

I miss the weather we used to have, I thought it rocked.
... missions were to be met by the commitment of alerted swarms of fighters, composed of Me 109's and Fw 190's, that were strategically based to protect industrial installations. The inferior capabilities of these fighters against the Mosquitoes made this a hopeless and uneconomical effort. 1.JD KTB

You'd be surprised how easily people adapt to "stuff they rant against as if it was the Beast from the abyss that'd climb out during Armageddon".

The loudness of rants and whinings don't necessarily coincide with the actual difficulty of the process of adaptation - not to mention whinings and threats of quitting the game usually last about a month, and after that people just casually forget about the fact something has changed.. and simply merrily enjoy the game again.
