From what I get out of it:  He is discussing low end systems and the new terrain updates.  He says that these systems will see the checkerboard effect.  So, using context clues, etc.., high end computers won't have any (should really say  many) problems with the new terrain.  :)


I may be wrong, but that's what I get out of it.

The colours still seem to dark Pyro, are you aware that it was a hot topic last time the terrain was redone ?

As opposed to the overly bright and cartoony look now?  :rolleyes:

There's a BIG difference between the previews for the new terrain and when we got the last texture update. The "dark" terrain we had last time had almost no contrast or variation. It was a monotonous expanse of nearly uniform overly-dark green that killed depth-perception. The preview we have for the new terrain shows a LOT more contrast. I don't think it's going to have nearly the same problems as before.
Ron White says you can't fix stupid. I beg to differ. Stupid will usually sort itself out, it's just a matter of making sure you're not close enough to become collateral damage.

He said that the quality would be decreased from the panic inducing screenshots that they posted... which means that you'll see this on high end...




And I'd imagine something similar to what we have now for low end users.

I like how there are more small clumps of shrubbery (2d) sharply depicted on the new terrain, those subtle cues really enhance the feeling of speed when you're flying on the deck. 

What's the ETA on the terrain?

Good news, nice to seem some graphical enhancements are coming.

As for the system requirements, do what you must....every other game lists the system requirements and doesn't cow to the angry Commodore 64 fanboy   :)

It's pretty much implied through his statement that the checkerboard effect will only be on those low end systems that have to lower the graphic quality.  Those with high end systems will not have this issue.

Indeed. Thanks for the clarification. :)

I might install AH on my laptop when it comes out to see how "low" "low end" is for them.

lol by the time you see a terrain change in 2012..I THINK you will probably have a newer system right?

im playing on an onboard intel 945 video chip (for now), and i get random black dots everywhere on screen with everything on low settings. i still get 30-35 fps average though, very playable. processor is an intel core2duo e7300 2.67GHz, 2GB DDR2 667, 1TB maxtor 7200rpm 32mb cache hdd, in a shuttle K45 barebone system.

good news is i'm on newegg right now to buy components for a new pc build specifically for this AHII terrain update.  =)

would there be foam effects on those waves? getting a water trail spray when flying low on the deck 30-40 ft above water would really be impressive coding!
