Great Planes has it wrong too. They call the P-51 Mustang with four 20mm a Mustang with only four .50 cals. and then calls the bubble canopy a new canopy designed by Robert Malcolm the 'Malcolm Hood.' Whoever writes for that show comes off like a 6th grader.

They do advertise AHII though.  :aok

Not sure if you worded that wrong or something, but the Mustang has only 4 .50 cals.

Nope. The P51 Mustang has 4 20mm. The P51B/C has four .50 cals. The P51D/K has 6 .50 cals.

I believe the only P-51 that had 20mm cannons on it was the British variant Mk IA, all other variants had the .50 cals, so when they talk about the P-51 on TV I'm sure they'll always refer to the 51 as having the .50 cals unless they are specifically talking about the P-51 Mk IA.

The American version is the P51 before there were sub-versions and the British version is the Mustang Ia. Im not sure you can call the P51 a Mustang at that point because the Army was calling the North American types Apache along with the A36a. The British called it Mustang. I remember reading that in the UK the Mustang Ia squadrons had the reputation of beating the crap out of the Spitfires they sparred with but only as long as the fight was below FL120. I believe more then any other reason the type was renamed Mustang to avoid confusion but it is clear North American intended the type be known as Apache originally.

I find in intresting how Hitler didn't trust anyone.  And all the top Nazi people always try to get a head of each other.  They act like republicans and democrate debating on a bill.

Yeah but I think on TV anytime they refer to the P-51 as a Mustang they are talking about the 51's that had the .50 cals on it as the general public knows any P-51 as a Mustang.

Plus like I said, out of all the variants of the 51 only 1 had 20mm on it, all others had .50 cals.

Oh is that what you meant!? No they were showing the P51 with the barrels that extend out of the wing and have recoil springs. Those are P51s. And they called them Mustangs with four .50 cals which isnt right at all. In fact I doubt there was much research that went into the entire series. Its a real shame.

Yeah, I figured that there was some kind of miscommunication going on here.

I just saw the episode you mentioned and did see what you were talking about, that they are showing on the screen a P-51 flying with the 20mm cannons and say that the pilots were complaining about the fact it only had the Browning .303 guns.

Most of you do know that the Hitler's Bodyguard was a series of a bunch of different shows right?  I know I saw at least 5 different ones, yeah they kept replaying some of them, but I saw a new one every night for about 3 or 4 nights then caught the one about his train on Saturday.
