How many of you take historical flights?
« on: February 08, 2009, 04:40:49 PM »
Once in a while, I'll go take a fully loaded Jug with 100% and 3 DTs, take off from a base 2 sectors back, land at the same base, and make that flight a historical one. I'll climb to 25K and do a patrol for missions, cons, etc. It adds to the realism if you need to engage, having a full load on your back. I've also done this in the P39 but with a lower alt. This is mainly when I'm bored and there are no real fights going on.

So, anyone ever do this? I know some do it most sorties...but I do admit when I fly I don't do it historically. :)

Yep Spikes i do. Take my 190A8 with 100+ Dt and my heavy cannon option ( 2 20mms + 2 30mm ) about 25k and search for bombers. Normally run into a bandit but I'll be at cruising speed so it isn't a bother. Spot a formation, proceed to set up attack runs, once it's down. Climb back to alt, move on to the next area, repeat.

Or I'll take a rotte or schwarm of 109s for a CAP of the area with realistic loadouts for the added immersion as well as proper tactics. Great fun. Wish more of AH could get into the habit but people love the quake style gameplay with the spit 16s, La7s, etc.

It's quite a few historic missions in the MA. It's just the unhistorical pilots who up las against B24s or B17s to intercept is when it starts getting unhistorical.

If you are at historical altitudes in your buffs, the Las will still be trying to climb up to you sometime next Tuesday.

You do know that Tempest historically were patrolling for enemy Luftwaffe aircraft, V1 flying bombs, and 262s. Correct?

Yeah I like doing this spikes. I especially like historical matchups, such as 51, 47, or 38 v 109, 190, N1K, zeke, etc. I'll never pass those up, and I always turn on the camera before I engage for a good screenshot opportunity.

Whatever plane I'm in I generally like looking for opposing country aircraft (51 Vs Germans, etc...)  This is basically for screenshots

Historical sorties are restricted to only some aircraft and not others? ;)

That must be challenging with the overwhelming number of P-51s and Spitfires you see in the arena.

It is.  I have seen an increase in 109s and 190s lately though.

I used to do that way back when Aces High had a true
night time period.  I would up a 110 and hunt for bombers,
nightfighter style.  ;)

G-14 w/gondalas + DT at 27k.  Anti-bomber sweeps. Do it once a day.  :rock
