Hitech, would you look into this?
« on: November 16, 1999, 05:29:00 AM »
Hi guy,
I've noticed the following has been happening:
an aircraft gets its tail shot off, or from low alt enters into a slow, flat, spinning stall.  In both cases, the effect is that the aircraft hits the ground at not too great a speed (30-50mph?), and it hits the ground flatly, either from top or bottom, sometimes even taking a bounce, or two.  And the result is that the player survives the crash much more often than not.

I noticed that Dinger has seen the very same thing (his post is in General Discussion/Cheating).  Is this really possible, or just the result of incomplete ground modelling?  If it's the latter I won't worry about, since you guys took care of this phenomena pretty well in WB.

Take care,

Man, and I have even died on the runway with reason being crashed just because I start engine and someones survives from flat spins? argh

With this I would like to mention about planes crashing easily on belly landings (109 really easy), looks like they have some kind of 100mph top touchdown speed without gears or then durability for each plane varies very greatly (spitfire hits the deck like a tank, barely notices)

Also taking off the gears on the runway is pretty funny, whole plane crashes :P
Couldn't believe there was planes which actually belly landed themself, if these planes already crash on taking gears off

Guess these ground models are still bit unfinished... yes.. the beta.

None of the ground collision stuff is even close to complete. Crashing is just a quick hack at the moment.

Perhaps you should check the definition of a 'hack'? It can be found here: http://www.tuxedo.org/~esr/jargon/html/entry/hack.html
