Steel Fury: Kharkov 1942
« on: February 07, 2009, 08:57:38 PM »

Here are pictures from one German mission.  Mission was to attack a village. Just a push towards village had cost me two tanks and three APCs.  Then Russians counter attacked with old tanks and few infantry squads.  I managed to hold village but lost a lot of infantry and another few APCs.

Two AT guns knocked out those vehicles and revealed their position.

lonely gunner survived and stayed manning machine gun.

This tank received a direct hit; crew did not bail out. Tank in the back got hit and one guy jumped out and took cover behind burning tank.

No one escaped from this tank.

Crew lost track and decided to jump out only to be mowed down by MG fire.

Cool looking game.. I'll have to try that one..
Interesting, a lendlease valentine tank..

Kharkov was the REAL deal.. The classic Eastfront Armored battle..
The city changed hands 4 times over the course of the war.. Each
time was a MAJOR tank fight... It was also the only battle where ALL
the Waffen SS units faught together as a coherent force under SS
command..

Ppl look to Kursk as the big Tank battle.. But that was an PanzerKeil
attack against fixed fortification belts, followed by a Russian armored
counterattack.. Kharkov was a true openfield battle of fire and maneuver..
THE classic tank fight...

Awesome pics :aok

That tank is BT-5

And you're not going to have large battles and combat in cities.  Largest battle I saw had 12 tanks with 10+ APCS and a bunch of infantry. Most of the combat is done towards a small village vs a dug in enemy.

It's not a BT-5, the bogeys are all wrong.

From the weird gap between the running gear, I'd say a Valentine was
dead on.  I first noticed that feature while watching a Bovington Tank Museum
video on Youtube.
