If you ignore the circus classes of Top Fuel, Funny Car, and Pro Mod, and look at Pro Stock, Competition Eliminator, Super Stock, and Stock Eliminator, an NHRA or IHRA race can be a real treat, if you like real hardcore racing. Especially if you pick a race where "class" is contested in Stock and/or Super Stock.

For example, if you want to see the REAL racing at Indy, class is contested in Stock on Thursday, and in Super Stock on Friday. Guys work all year, and drive a thousand miles or more to take the class trophy at Indy. A class win at Indy is the Holy Grail. So go on Thursday and Friday, if at all possible, as that's when you'll see as many as a dozen cars in a single class in Stock or Super Stock go at it heads up, no dial in, winner take all.

You can get on the NHRA website and look around to see if they have one of the events close to you, and see if Stock and/or Super Stock runs for class.

Don't get me wrong, I like John Force, and I have known some Top Fuel racers personally, but it's all just a mega dollar circus, at least these days, and the racing just isn't as good as it is down in the sportsman classes, even Pro Stock doesn't quite capture it, but it is a fun class to watch, at least for me.

The Milan IHRA races are pretty good, one of my friends doubled up there a couple of years ago, winning two classes at the same event.

3 hrs of stupid pre-race, when they knew weather was gonna be a threat. I'm sorry very poor call by NASCAR. Race would of been better If they weren't all looking a the radar IMO. On the junior thing. Both were in the wrong. Did someone have to block a lap down car? And did someone have get pissy a retaliate in front of the main pack?  I don't like this dweeb but the 18 car had the best 1 imo.

I agree again.   I find the Top Fuel to be too "over the top" and detract from it's former roots.   Just as I hate watching Nascar races loaded with Cautions, called due to rain, won on a Caution, etc.

I'll check into the Stock/Super Stock thing.   That is more my cup of tea.   Hell, hopefully I can see you there!

<---Big Nascar fan....Trucks....Nationwide series....F1..Indy car....touring cars....

The race wasn't bad , but not as good as past races. After they new the weather was coming they all got going a bit harder.

I'm a Jr. fan....I thought Vickers moving a lane and a half to block the way he did was B.S.. Then to run Jr. even lower was more B.S.. I'm not sorry Vickers got crashed at all , but kind of feel bad for the others. (Except busch). I'll take Jr.'s word that he was trying to get control of his car and clipped him in accident. Vickers wrecked Jr. and Jimmy Johnson both 2 years ago at Talladega on the last lap on the back straight and went on to win. So for him to cry like a lil ***** is typical.

I was rootinig for Jr. , Stewart , and Martin.

Both were fighting for the 'Lucky Dog'.

Who watched the Nationwide race? Late in the race a car blew a tire and no caution was thrown, yet in the Sprint race the caution id flown if all a car does is spin out.

NASCAR needs to get their act together.

That is enough information right there to know what your opinion would be.  The block was legal, happens hundreds of times in every single restrictor plate race.  Jr. screwed up and let his emotions get the best of him yet again that day.

Disagree...I've watched that replay a ton...mainly cause I was dissappointed. Vickers made his block and hit Jr. and knocked him even further down....if you see the incar from Jr.s car he clearly feathers the throttle....to get back in line. Vickers made a legal move...no doubt....but a lane and a half? Bit much IMO.

None the less.....all things after the fact.....Talledega 2 years ago vickers did the same thing to Jr. and Jimmy.....Screw him. :lol

Redtop, the block that happened isn't anything you don't see tons of times in restrictor plate racing.  Nothing unusual at all.  And even if it was, it didn't warrant Jr spinning him into the pack.  Vickers' move is allowed by the rules.  Argue for a change if you don't agree, but don't use it as a get out of jail free for Jr.  And methinks you may be already holding a grudge if you're remembering a wreck from two years ago....

They were both in the wrong. It was an avoidable wreck and both drivers chose not to avoid it.

It wasn't a wreck until Jr turned right. At that point there was nothing Vickers could do but hold on.

I say this every time, but you just can't top Bathurst as far as car racing goes. Daytona has got nothing on Bathurst. Nothing at all.

Never mind the 30 other cars on the track that goes up and down a mountain, you have to deal with this too:
