Not a whine...just wana know
« on: February 16, 2009, 12:34:41 AM »
Again it's not a whine just wana know why this sort of thing happens.  Why would 2 of the 3 sides fight heavier against 1 side when there is plenty of bases an all sides to attack?  I know it happens at times to all sides so this just happens to be Knights.  I don't like to fly with or fight against the huge hordes because you can't have a good 1v1.  Is it the lemming effect?  Every base I went to on rook and bish front I got ganged and only once (i think...got rammed) wasn't able to fly back and land.  Are knights easy easy kills?  Are they the biggest threat?  Is it fun to fly with a 4-5 plane advantage?

I noticed that the other night. Don't have an answer but I've seen that from the Bishops and Rooks side as well. Just seems to be Knights turn. Hang in there it changes. Personally I always attack the most threatening side. If that helps.

HEY! WTG 412th.

Anyway, back to your question. Fact is, no one likes the Knights. Some even call them nit-wits

All weekend the Rooks were ganged, less people and less bases.

Bronk is correct.

What I have noticed is the weekends bring more 'lunacy' in improbable engagements and the way individuals go about things. If you are going to die... stupidly... it will probably happen on the weekend. That said... the group dynamic is usually focused upon furballs and not land grabs at least where the bish are concerned the mood seems to be centered around engaging impossible numbers repeatedly without a consideration to strategy like porking or resupply (unless its HQ). We dont seem to have a problem getting people to do things when asked but I think the missions are very often over populated for all teams. Maybe a good move would be capping mission sizes or has that already been suggested?

The funny part of this is this.  Me personally I have never from day one paid attention who was Knights or Rooks.  When I meet a con in the air I never notice in their icon wheather they are Knights or Rooks.  I never look to see how many people are on any side.  I know when our numbers are up because the eny kicks in.

It has never matter to me which side someone flys or fights for.  It's all red to me and I just look for flashing home bases and either up a plane or GV.  It had never entered my mind to look to see which country the base was being attacked by.

Does everyone else really watch this?  Maybe I am missing something.

This is what the arenas have become.

We're supposed to just 'get used to it' or quit.
Wonder if anyone's interested in making a new sim...

I want to point that beyond all reasons like "walking past of least resistance" (which indeed does happen, I'm not going to argue this) there are sometimes other things causing such 2-1 situations as well.

For example distribution of starting bases after log-in. Many players don't really scan the map thoroughly after logging in. They just head for the fight closest to their start base. If know Rooks & Bish have their respective starting base (The one with lowest number) on the Knight front, both will start to attack Knights in big numbers without any consideration or hesitation. You can observe this effect quite well on maps like Baltic, NDisles or Sfma (with it's eternal A1-A2 Furball)

Another one the dynamic of the war. Moving fronts sometimes result in one front having much closer distances between opposing bases than the other one, or with less obstructions like 20k mountain ranges.

All those reasons can add up, then throw in some obvious gregariousness (often called "hording" ;)) and the result is one side getting thrashed.

--------------

And on the "that is what the arenas have become"... It's not a recent trend, it's exactly the same way it had been 4 years ago when I started.
In some respects, it's even less worse. Players seem to forget how things were working under the old "win teh war" conditions.

Personally I'd rather fly into a horde than fly with a horde. My last night flying I went to vbase 98 to defend from a cv attack even though there was a full dar bar there and no greenies. There were some gv'ers heading there though but they needed some air support. Now I like to survive as much as the next guy so I came in at 10k expecting the attackers to be low. However there was a co alt seafire but fortunately not co E. I dispensed with him and then began dodging puffy ack f6s etc. Soon another Rook showed up, Grackel, and we had some fun.

Most just rather fight the green guys for kills than the red. Simple as that.

In LW Orange yesterday, bish and nits were ganging rooks. Meanwhile, bish were taking nit bases left and right on the other front.

UHm.... Since this is a simulated war and all... The object is to win, right? So... who cares how you win as long as it's all kept legit with the program.
