Increase Hit Percentage
« on: February 16, 2009, 02:47:57 PM »
Skuzzy,

I have read in previous answers, that there is no such thing as a rubber bullet.  I have experienced several issues that definitely affect my ability to damage other aircraft however.  Pilot skill is numbero uno  :lol.  But, just recently I have seen differences in hit percentage when antialiasing is adjusted.  Is it possible that since the game is actually being played on my cpu, that the transparent pixels do not score as hits?  Thus, reducing the area of the target slightly and exponentially as the target is at a longer range.

Myth?  Or could I be on to something?  :O

Myth.

The most probable issue has to do with what you are hitting in the other plane.  If you do not hit anything critical, then it can take more ammo.

It is also highly unlikely you can hit the same place every time, due to airframe vibration being modeled in with gunfire.

could the antialising cause the hit flash not to show, but still register as a hit? I know many a time I've fired a burst that I know the target must fly through and never see a hit sprite, but pick up the target in another view and they are leaking something. Any suggestion on what might cause that?

There is a finite amount of resources available.  In busy areas, it is not unreasonable to use up all the slots and then no animation will play until the some slots free up.

You cannot use the hit sprites as an indicator of 'hit' or 'no hit'.  Consider them a general guideline.

Myth busted  :aok  Thanks for the response. :salute

Okay, this one has me swearing by it.  I increase sliders to graphic detail in order to locate bombing targets.  If I forget to decrease sliders to zero again I USE MORE AMMO period, exclamation point, million dollar question mark.
