Low end computers...My rant.

If its about priorities, then when the game upgrades you'll have to prioritize whether to upgrade, or spend time with your family. Pretty simple to me.

I have 5 kids and 4 grandchildren, I never let playing AH interfere with my family and Ive got the God Awful stats to prove it.  But one thing I will say, when I want to play a game on the PC I don't want it clunking and coughing so I save up and build it right.

I know I cant be the only person who finds the irony of these situations hilarious..

People climb up on a soap box and cry that them HAVING to upgrade their system to play this game as it evolves is some sort of travesty!!  how DARE they have to SPEND MONEY for to upgrade their system for a GAME!!!! they have families, kids, mortgages for gods sake!!!  

meanwhile they have spent over a grand on subscription fees for said game..  lol  

also I like the folks that look down there noses at the folks who are happy this game is FINALLY getting a update to the eye candy.. as if somehow the people who are looking foreward to not flying over lego-land anymore are somehow simple minded and inferior

I fully understand people who don't play any other game, and or just dont want to allocate the resources for a system upgrade..  fine, I understand, its ok with me.   Now you need to understand, You need to shut up and quit complaining about a problem that is entirely yours, and not the game makers, You know what the problem is, and what is needed to fix it.. so either fix it, or if its not important enough to fix.. shut up about it

My computer was middle-of-the road when I got it three years ago. When I started playing Aces High a little over 2 years ago it ran the game at a pretty decent clip. Some months later I wanted to try skinning, so I had to get the Hi-Res pack. I decided, hey I'll just run it in game on high res. So, after turning down some of the other settings i was able to get pretty decent frame rates with it- in the 40's 50's most of the time. My computer wasn't displaying some stuff correctly, though (that and I couldn't play other games) so about a year and a half ago I got an NVIDIA 8600GT, which even at the time was a middle of the road graphics card (it wasn't even one of NVIDIA's 'gaming' cards), which was about $150 ish at the time (you can get one off of NewEgg for like $60-$70 now). At this point I was able to turn all of the settings all of the way up and play the game at 50-60 FPS at 1280x1024 res. A little later I also bought another gig of RAM for my computer, which was at the time running one gig. Not because I needed it, but because it was on sale for $30.
That's about my current rig, which at current prices for electronics would run about $100 in upgrades. Right now I run Aces High II at 1024 res, with the detail sliders all of the way up, I think 8x AA in the NVIDIA control panel, though I'd have to check, on a 1680x1050 monitor, with TIR and usually iTunes and FireFox, and around 50-60 other processes (lol) running in the background. With all of this I get 60 FPS normally and usually around 30 when we launch during FSO. I almost always run smooth except in the largest battles on the really taxing maps.


I do NOT have a sweet computer. Actually, I get ragged on because of this thing (case wise, my monitor makes up for it for the most part, though ). But I can still get everything there is to get out of Aces High.

Also, I must note that getting a new comp does not mean you have to just throw away your old one, its not totally worthless..



in fact you might find it even MORE USEFUL than ever, with its current performance levels it may be much better suited for a different role in your life.

when people come in here and get a reasonable answer to a question and then because they don't like that answer they call it a whine. I have yet to see a single post in the bb's where someone came on and said that they have to keep the graphics lower so I can play. What I have seen is people trying to explain that some features may have been left out due to trying to keep the game playable to the most numbers of people by keeping it playable to lower end systems as well.

Please prove me wrong. Show me even one example of a post that someone came even close to the agressiveness that you did in your post only stated that HT needs to keep the game at a level they can play. I think you will be hard pressed. I think almost everyone that may be pushed out by increased graphics will completely understand that HT needed to make a business decision to keep their game competitive.

Show me the whines.

Amen. I'm another one that at least has a job, albeit one I'll be glad to get away from if or when times improve. I have a wife & three boys. Through sheer luck I live on my dad's 10 acres out of town, which allows for self sufficiency should the economic situation worsen. I save for the things we need and want, and have the patience to do it. We do not owe anyone anything other than the normal monthly utilities & such. Right now, putting together a new computer is not a problem. I can afford it, and my brother (Flayed1) is very good at throwing all together and making it work. My PC is around five years old now. The game is still affordable & playable, and definitely more fun now that the phone company finally strung DSL out our way. Right now however, it just seems prudent for us to invest in ways to sustain ourselves if or when times do get hard.

I lag, i Disco, i do alot that would cause a normal player to go nuts, but the game RUNS with my current system. Do i need a upgrade? Definitely.Can i afford a new cpu? No. So as i stated above, i possibly, no in fact i know i have the worst cpu in the aces high community but do you hear me on the boards complaining about lag, fps, etc? I fly with 15-30FPS  daily if not that much without complaining. Yes i lag and lock up when i enter a area with GV's on the ground, CV's attacking the base my cpu will lock up untill i get airborne so I'm happy tha HTC has considered keeping Aces High playable to the low end systems such as mines.

Mind you I've been playing Aces high with this Setup since 2006, I even played DGS Scenario with this same computer, and do you know how demanding the rhine map is with over 300 aircraft flying around?

What a great idea.... make the game unplayable for all the guys with low end computers.  Who needs an FPS of 18 when you can have rubber bullets with a FPS of 4.

Heck....why don't these guys just get a job.  Send their kids to work.  Get divorced.  Don't pay the mortgage for a month an get a wandango computer instead.

I just did. See my post above. Those settings i play with EVERYTHING OFF. Sliders all the way right, all my the special effects turned off, disabled pilot skins, everything. I MUST have all of my settings downed low and on short vis range just to play smoothly.

No i wouldn't. How could i? I would either have to cancel my subscription untill i raised enough funds to purchase an entire new computer or quit. I'd really have to do both seeing as I'm in no way ,form, or position to purchase a new cpu by any means so I've already suspected i might have to quit the game when this new update is released if my cpu is unable to sustain enough frame rate to even function the basics such as taking off and landing let alone fly across the new terrain and water.

Cuz I bought a hotrod PC, and a 47" 120hz monitor Just for this game..

Like when I see a poor crippled kid, or a baby born deformed..
I get this funny guilty feeling inside.. I ask myself, how do rate

It's very amusing how some people think they have a right to dictate what my priorities should be just because they want more eyecandy.  HTC knows who their loyal customers are and whining about not enough eyecandy isn't going to change that.


P.S.  Everyone I know who left AH did so because of gameplay issues and not graphics.
