What alot of people must also understand is the two most primary upgrades needed for any computer is a very good video card, 1-2gigs ram, and a fairly decent cpu.

With a good video card, you can crank the graphics high and use the cards full potential, further taking load off your cpu (That's the idea with a video card) Most video cards today are stronger than some of your 6 year old computers, so in effect spend 180+ on a good video card, and your basicly buying yourself a lil mini computer for all your eye candy needs.

Also with newer graphic function being used IN aceshighII... again, it will utilize your video card more, further taking load off your cpu. That's where the ram comes into play as it will give the video card more time before cpu hit's.

Of course when you have your video card, and ram, then you can take your sweet time getting a better cpu, as mostly that will just help game load time and arena load speed.

1200$? no

350$ maby a lil' more.
Do not under estimate how much more graphic functions being used by the video card can help the game itself run smoother provided your video card doesn't blow. ;)

This next update may prove more rewarding than some may suspect.

Very true.  One thing to remember; over the last 6 months there has been one kind of computer that is selling; laptops (and specifically netbooks).  Over the last 2 years laptop sales have outdone desktops by a decent margin.

Those laptops can't be "ungraded".  It is true that laptops aren't considered "gaming machines" by most people that play games.  But for HiTech, they are your potential customers.  Completely discounting a large section of your market does not increase market share.  Eliminating those machines also has an impact on your current player base (I know several players that run on laptops, including myself).  For many of us it is simply not practical to use a desktop or upgrade our laptops for one or two games, meaning you lose us as customers.  No threat, no drama, simply facts of life.

Guess what most of those laptops run as video cards, including many brand new ones.  Those same crappy Intel cards that HTC specifically mentioned would still work.  So HTC is paying attention to their customer base, but I'm still trying to figure out the temper tantrum that spawned this thread to begin with.....

I have been hearing about low end systems for 3 years now....... I have a hard time believing that you guys cant get some money together in 3 years to upgrade your computers.

2 dollars aday and you can build a brand new top end system...far less if your computer is upgradable....

Do we really have to listen to why HTC cant do this to "me" and cant do that to "me" because you wont upgrade your computer.

You are willing to complain about your situation for 3 freaking years  that i know of but not willing to do a dang thing about it...

EVery time some kid gets one here and says he does not have the money for a subscribstion they get blasted about mowing yards or washing windows.....

<S>

Amen!! ....I am so tired of listening to folks trying to play this game on "two cans and some string" ....Seriously if your computer is outdated and you cannot afford to upgrade ...you have bigger problems and responsibilities then playing a game ....why Insist on holding the rest of us back?

You don't see the Quake/Unreal tournament community held back by this "two cans and some string" ...garbage

I'm no rich guy...but currently i am buying a new "box" ...because.... "the time has come"

I am paying for it by working a part time job ... brown bagging my lunch ...and cutting out cable TV  ....If i can do this ...so can others

So don't cry to me about how your "two cans and some sting" PC ain't cutting the mustard   ...face the facts you are NOT dedicated enough to do something about it?  .....why should you be so selfish and hold back the entire comunity?

So, its "selfish" for someone to mention when changes will keep them from playing a game they may have been an active member of for a long time...

But it isn't selfish for you to tell them to go away because you want prettier things and don't care if they can play anymore?

The whole thread is a mute point.  HTC has already shown that they are able to make the game a lot better looking, while still supporting the older machines and those current customers.  Once they mentioned those machines would still work, no one complained about the fact the graphics might even suffer from today's game; all we care is if we can still play  ;)

Dedicated enough? Everybody dedicated enough to pay their monthly fee is just as dedicated as you.
I'm fortunate enough to have an up to date rig and I don't feel I'm held back by people with lesser systems. HTC decides the horse power required for the sim, not some guy playing the game
on a six year old Dell. They're not holding back the community anymore than you're advancing it by having a new rig. Your post appears way more selfish than a guy bemoaning the fact his PC won't keep up.

Actually, most current gen games are more GPU critical. My wifes PC only has a dual core 2.0 Amd (about 60 bucks now), but will run COD WAW , rFactor, Red Orchestra ,or any other current game at full graphic settings smoothly with 3 ghz of ram (4 ghz is now a whole whopping 50 bucks) and a $129 9800 GT vid card from New Egg. Upgrades are probably the cheapest I've ever seen them now.

This is wrong.  A video card will help but Aces High is more demanding on the CPU than the GPU as the CPU handles all the flight physics, communication between clients and servers, etc.  Beyond that, to upgrade to a better video card often requires an upgrade to a better power supply at the same time which can add an additional 50% or more to what the card costs.

Adding RAM is the cheapest quickest upgrade.  After that you need to look at the rest of the components as a system.  You can have the best video card on the planet and if the CPU is choking it won't do you a bit of good.

Hell yeah bro' ..did 83 hrs last week.  I  gave notice at the part time, two more shifts to go!....working one job is gonna feel like I'm on vacation!  New PC is gonna be worth it though.

I'm doing research for my next model.  Gonna do a 1/35 M26 Pershing ....I'm leaning to the dragon kit at the moment.  I hope to modify it up to the M45 105 mm howitzer version that served in Korea.  I'll keep ya posted!

I'm starting to think this whole thread can be blamed on the "box" systems that most people buy.  The average kid that wants to play games online 1 has mom and dad pay for the game/monthly membership and 2 forced to play on whatever the family bough a few years ago.  The adults that play 1 have to budget the membership fee and 2 have to look long and hard at paying for an upgrade or paying the credit card bill.

I pay for 2 accounts on AH and have 2 comps. Neither of them are "top of the line" but they both play the game well enought not to complain.  The system my son plays on is an old AMD Athlon 2600 with 1 Gig of ram on an old MSI board, Nvidia 5700 Vid card and an old sound card.  It's 5 years old and runs Aces with a frame rate of 35-60.  Mine was build a year ago with a 6750 intel, 8600 video card on an Asus P5 board and I run a solid 60 frame rate with no sound card and Vista without trimming the fat.

IIRC both systems were built for less than 700.00 each.

Best Buy computer that would be close would be 2500.00.

I understand that the average family can't afford to get a new comp every other year, I can't either, but if you want a gaming computer, do it right the first time and you will not have to.

If you want to play a game that doesn't require you to update your computer every 6 years or so, Pong is a simple download(if your hard drive is big enough to handle it) at a whopping 64 Kb

I have Pong for my Gameboy.  Believe it or not it's still sort of fun once in a while but I get hooked on Tetris.
