Frank.....I noticed the Dingy also.  I guess Dan was being prepared for all eventualities.

Hell he flew this one so hard he knocked most of the paint off of it & had to put down in water to cool it off.

Frank.....I noticed the Dingy also.  I guess Dan was being prepared for all eventualities.

The dingy is from Dan's observer.  This wasn't the first flight this observer flew with Dan, and overall regarded his landing on this occasion as extremely soft.  It was so gentile that the observer was certain they had landed it in the ocean and tossed out the dingy before noticing the cow standing next to the plane.

tough to say... in all fairness most 38's are barely recognizable as such once Dan's through with them.

Any information about what caused him to ditch? (and do it so gentle, as Babalonian said)

It was so gentile that the observer was certain they had landed it in the ocean and tossed out the dingy before noticing the cow standing next to the plane.

Hm, if I recall correctly, water landings are anything BUT gentle!

Looks more like Guppy had trouble taking off - starboard prop tips are bent forward.
... missions were to be met by the commitment of alerted swarms of fighters, composed of Me 109's and Fw 190's, that were strategically based to protect industrial installations. The inferior capabilities of these fighters against the Mosquitoes made this a hopeless and uneconomical effort. 1.JD KTB

Bah - shows how much I know. Forced landing after pilot error, both engines failed.

True Beaufighter nyyyyyyeeeeeeeerrrrrrrrrrrrrr ds should go here:

http://www.naa.gov.au/collection/recordsearch/index.aspx

Click on Search Now  - as a guest user, type Beaufighter into the search field, then click the button marked "Show digitised images first".

Lotsa original documentation there.
