Mrs Max is looking for a toy
« on: February 21, 2009, 09:01:14 AM »
NO...not THOSE kinda toys  :devil

My wife says I can play AH to my hearts content if she can get herself a Nintendo Wii. Knowing nothing about game consoles I thought I'd get opinions about Wii vs Playstation and XBox 360. Opinions please?

Thanks

If she asked for a wii then why are you looking at all the other consoles?

You're about to get a free pass to play AH, and all you need to do is follow some simple instructions.

Don't make this harder than it has to be.

Seriously, I'm not much into console games. That being said if I was to buy one I would probably get a wii. The people that I know that have one say they are a blast. From what I understand the graphics are not up to the same standard as the ps3, and xbox. Again I don't own either so this is just from what I have read and been told buy differant people.

Unless your wife is the rare sort of woman who wants to play the latest "Game of the Year" first person shooters, listen to her and buy her the Wii.  It isn't the system that I would buy for ME, but it is the system I'd figure I'd have the best chance of getting most women to play for an extended period of time.

They are absolutely great for children, women, and casual gamers.

I dunno about the console differences, but I do know that if the Mrs. wants a Wii, then you better get her a Wii and nothing else.  Even if you convince her to get something else that is better, it has become your toy and not hers.

Get her exactly what she wants.  Hell, take her out shopping, let her pick the console off the shelf, pick a game or two and maybe an accessory or two, and then pay for it with your credit card.  That's how you do it, trust me :)

I've had one for over a year and a half.  For your wife, I wouldn't consider and Xbox/PS3.  Those systems are geared towards the 10 and up male.  The Wii really shines as a systems when you incorporate friends playing with you (not online, but physically there).  The type of games offered on the systems are much more appealing than Xbox or PS3 games.  Hot Mama's Cook Off?  Yea, not on the Xbox.

My wife loves the Wii Sports and Rayman Raving Rabbit series (great for when company is over).  The Wii fit is kind of cool as well.  At least for the yoga and balance stuff, the running in place thing was pretty stupid IMO.  Mario Kart is a good time.  I didn't care for Madden really on the Wii, I favored the old style controls of a gamepad to play, not the remote throwing stuff.  Super Mario Galaxy is a really good game, especially if you grew up playing the original games.  She uses it more than I do.  I prefer to do my main gaming on my computer.

Yep wii is not about eye candy it's about playability and everything that attracts kids and wives. It's amazing what kind of stuff women get hooked up to - it can look crap and feel real dumb to you but they love it.

We bought a Wii for our 7 year old son, for Xmas.   He loves, I enjoy it as does the wife.

Max, get the Wii, you at least get off of your a** when you play it.    Although, I've perfected Baseball and can play from the couch if I wanted too, but I stand up.   They DO have a Component Video for it, but you do NOT buy the Wii for "graphics".   Although, I've been told the latest Tiger Woods Golf for Wii is nothing short of incredible.

If you get the XBox/PS3, you're not thinking about "her."   I guarantee you as a Married man myself, that card will be played soon after purchase.

I need to hire you as my common sense advisor  :rofl

Having gotten a bit more clarification from her, its the physical interaction aspect that appeals to her...she hates the game console ("berserk thumbs" as she puts it) aspect. Too bad as I gather the PS3 provides you a Blue Ray player as part of the package.

Thanks for the advice :salute

don't worry, the blu-ray player it has is a weak one. My DVD player automatically tries to pump up the DVD out-put (don't remember what the technical name for it is) and the picture quality is about as good as the PS3 blu-ray. Save your pennies and buy a good blu-ray player if you really want a blu-ray player. Buy a PS3 if you really want a PS3   :)
